Inexpensive Liquor Supplier/Store for a Wedding...Know of Any?
Hi, we've heard it time and again, and it's true, CP is a wealth of knowledge, and I'm seeking your counsel again. Basically, my sister is having a wedding, and I'm trying to help her find affordable liquor for the wedding this Saturday. Of course it depends on the liquor were buying (it may all just be similar pricing I don't know, I'm not much of a drinker), but a bartender friend of mine recommended Highlander or Willowdale Liquor since they supply restaurants and bars, and do it cheaply...supposedly. Anyhow, do you guys know of any places that have good prices, I would be buying either today or tommorrow. BTW the wedding will have about 150 adults. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Real Canadian Superstore has a liquor store in the S.E. by Anderson LRT. You can buy cheap and in bulk.
If I was still drinking, I would never leave the place.
I'd make a bed out of beer cans and watch the security camera while getting drunk on cheap liquor.

Yeah, there is also one in Shawnessy and over on 130th Avenue. Really cheap prices, especially when you buy bulk. I always like to stop there before hitting up a party. You'll save money on pretty much anything you buy.

I bought all the booze for my wedding at Superstore and found it to be the cheapest around. Another good thing about Superstore is if you have alot of unopened liquor after the reception you can take back anything that hasn't been opened
My friends are all party animals so I didn't have to worry about it though!!

Is she just an "okay" sister? Just an "okay" wedding?
Get the good stuff.

My bro is a supervisor at a COOP Liqour store (no, he does not get a staff discount).
- Usually if you're buying in bulk, they'll give you a 10-15% discount.
- You're probably going to need a liquor licence, which you should be able to get at any liquor store worth it's weight in booze. Coop for sure.
- Most places will refund what you don't use.
- If there's something specific you want, and it's not on the shelf, they should be able to order it in for you.
As I said, I know for the most part that COOP will do these things for you, but don't quote me. If you want a contact number, I can get you in touch with him. He works at one of Calgary North's stores.

Costco in the NW has the best prices by far...
When I compared it to Superstore I still found that Costco was $1 - $2 cheaper on average per item... when you are buying in large quantaties that sure adds up.

Be weary of Superstore prices as they advertise without GST and the bottle deposit so you sometimes are not getting the deal you think you are getting. Granted, even with this price set up, you usally come out ahead when compared to other stores.

Here are some thoughts. If you are having the wedding at a place that has a liquor license, you don't need to get your own. Go to Superstore and get Lo Tengo - a very nice Argentinian malbec that comes in a very nice looking bottle (which is helpful for a wedding), and sells for something like $9.50 when you buy bulk. Coop Liquor sells Tsantali red in 1 L bottles for around $11 bulk - another very pleasant wine that is cheap. Both of these are in my "wine with dinner every day" category - very good and inexpensive. For a wedding, I would go with Lo Tengo for stylistic reasons. Whatever you do, don't show up with boxes of wine or giant jugs of some crap.

Don't laugh, but if you want a really decent wine for cheap.... CO-OP wine is excellent. Its 6.99 a bottle, and 10% off if you buy a case. It is bottled by Andres for them. I bought a couple bottles as a joke on thanksgiving along with a couple decent bottles, and everyone liked the co-op wine better than the 22 dollar wine. So the joke was on me. Just get some custom labels for the bottles, (Jim and Janes Wedding or something) and cover up the CO-OP label.

Just to note for continuity sake- Vlad didn't bump this thread. It was bumped by a spammer; who's post was deleted.

That's awesome. What styles do they have? More specifically, is there a co-op shiraz?

It's been nearly thirteen years, so I don't know if they're still the best deal in town, but I used Highlander for my wedding.
