Default The Prisoner

Has anyone out there in CP-land ever watched Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner? Its 17 episodes aired in the UK during the autumn/winter of 1967-68. It has become a real cult classic on this side of the pond.

Great stuff. Worth checking out if you can. Should be plenty of DVDs around.

IFC (in Colorado) was airing a bunch of episodes last weekend. Pretty good show, from what I saw.

AMC is doing a remake of this show starting next month. Should be great, since AMC produces two of the best shows on tv.

McGoohan rocked huge in this...not sure how the remake would be, as I've always though it was very much of it's time both in the look of the show and in the overall theme of the show...maybe they could make the ending at least slightly comprehensible.

my father-in-law has loaned me the dvd set. I'll be making an effort to watch it between Flames games.

"I am not a number. I am a free man!" Classic stuff.

The effects and sets on that show were hilarious. Not sure how they'd spin it nowadays to make it more 'believable'. Wicked concept though.

Looked at the trailer last night @ the AMC site...looks pretty good actually based on the 10 minutes they showed. Also on the AMC site...you can watch all the 1960's Prisioner episodes!

The last episode is really strange. If you have something called the Prisoner's Companion that came with the DVD set (last disc) it might help answer a few questions that you undoubtedly will have when it is all over.

Some great TV in the 60s.

I haven't seen the original, but did anyone catch any of the remake last night?

I've watched the first episode. I think it was pretty good. Jim Caviezel looks like he is going to kick some Ian McKellen ass.

I must admit from the snippets I've seen it looks pretty good. Might have to check out the older series too.

I was at a public pool in Halifax a few weeks back. Someone accidently knocked this giant white ball into the pool and it starting floating towards me. I had to swim quite fast to avoid being hit by this thing and the lifeguard pulled it out of the pool. I said "I am not a number! I am a free man!" Of the dozen people within earshot, one seemed to get it and the others just looked at me like I was crazy.

I only watched the first episode of the remake. It was OK, but not sure if I'll make it regular viewing. But then again, what else is on on Sunday nights? But I was really glad to see the big white ball make an appearance in the new show. Also glad to see it's being shot in South Africa and Namibia.

The original show is wonderful. There had to be more than 17 episodes, though. The box set has 10 discs, so it's probably closer to 40 episodes. If I remember right, the later episodes got a little lazy, much like its contemporary, Star Trek.
