Who is working today and who has the day off?
I'm working today. In exchange for working today I will get Monday Dec. 28 off. That way I get a four day Christmas break, what with Christmas day falling on a Friday this year.
.... its pretty quiet at work today, though.

I took today off. I actually think that this should be a statutory holiday and I think its a travesty that its not!

In Alberta, it is a statutory holiday. I believe that Quebec and Ontario are the only provinces where it isn't.

Working. The industry I work in doesn't take days off. Not even Christmas.

Working, I work every holiday. And this girl I work with came to work very sick, with what I think is Swine Flu. I want to kick has *** for coming in, and potentially making me sick. I think I'm gonna leave here early to get away.

How come so many people have to work then? I just figured that is because its not a stat?
Whatever the reason, I think its an important day. I remember having to work years ago on remembrance day and it just doesn't seem right. I know that a lot of people work today and get an extra day at Christmas and I don't hold that decision against people; it totally makes sense. I just wish that industry/government would make it more of a priority somehow.

Im off (work at a school) and so is my husband (works for the DAs office). However, my sister and best friend have to work (they both work for corporations).

I'm off today. I'm pretty sure most major businesses are closed with the exception of retail type stuff. I also get monday the 28th off in dec b/c boxing day falls on a saturday, and that's also a stat. Yay for days off!

If you don't want to work the company can't force you. A lot of people do work Nov 11 because this year it falls on a Wednesday so they would rather use that holiday day later in the year.... ie. Monday Dec. 28 (since Boxing Day isn't a statutory holiday).

No it isn't.... most companies give their employees Boxing Day off but technically they don't have to.

My employer is giving everyone December 28th off in lieu of working today.
