Ray Rice Terminated
Ray Rice looks to be done. Caught on viedeo knocking his wife out in an elevator. Contract torn up, league suspension until forever. What were these guys thinking before. Video was in a hotel was available all along. His couple of game suspension is probably going to have as many questions to be answered as his wife beating. Team news conference coming up.

The team and NFL said it didnt have the video of him hitting her until TMZ released it. They asked the local police and they didnt provide it. Kind of a Double Jeopardy ruling.
Its also being discussed here

The ridiculous over reaction to save face in these situations these days is stupid. Yes the dufus shouldn't be beating on a woman. No she shouldn't be swearing at him and spitting at him and whatever else. But the jumping on the pile crap is ignorant.
You don't solve problems by just sweeping them under the rug. Neither action the NFL/Ravens etc took was correct.
What should happen in these situations is they are prepared for them. Then when discovered the situation is dealt with in prescribed steps. Is criminal activity involved then follow the steps necessary. If not then have steps in place to follow.
In all cases they should be trying to help the offender realize he needs help and giving it to him/her. NOT seeing how much they can do the high and mighty pile on junk.

If they would have gave him 6-8 games from the beginning this wouldn't be an issue, the wife admitted she was being a bitch,he snapped and she forgave him, both have seen a counselor and seemed to have been over it.
A man should never punch a woman but it's their business if they stay together, the media is making her look like an idiot for not leaving him.
Stupid.

Well, she is an idiot for not leaving him.
I think the media is making the NFL and Goodell look more stupid than either Rice or his wife. There's something really, really fishy about the whole thing and that's what the media is wondering about. Incompetence? Cover-up? That's what the majority of the media frenzy is focusing on.

I'm not going to get snarky or condescending, but those posts are in poor form and really display a poor grasp of what happens in cases of domestic assault. I'm going to leave this here, which I also posted in the other thread.

Looks like Goodell has been caught in a lie about NFL access to the film of the incident, and may be collateral damage in this Domestic Violence incident... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-sh...211230052.html.
His hard line stance on marginal offenses will now come back and bite him in the a$$, looking like a cover-up for a "star" player on a MUCH more serious transgression.
After seeing the film, I am sickened by those moronic fanboys that are either A. Blaming the lady or B. Defending the dude. Calling THAT blow, with THAT much force, "self defense" is a sick joke, moreover, Rice is lucky that she didn't get killed by the fall into the elevator rail. EVEN IF SHE SLAPPED AT HIM, there was NO excuse for that crushing left hand...and the total lack of concern for her well-being, once she was down and out, demonstrated a total lack of humanity. It was as if he was looking for somewhere to hide the body. I've seen dudes in hockey fights show more concern for their opposing combatant.
More than just Goodell should fall on his sword here, the Police and Prosecutor should all be severely sanctioned or terminated for failure to prosecute so obvious an assault, which occurred in a public place, and for which there is irrefutable evidence of the criminal activity.

The thing I don't understand is how he is not facing jail time for that. He should be going away for years for that. Textbook assault and battery.

Most likely because she is not willing to let them prosecute him.

CBS has also pulled the new Rihanna song for Thursday Night Football for the obvious reason:

CBS Sports announces that they've pulled an opening act featuring a Rihanna song for tonight's Ravens-Steelers game http://ble.ac/1sv8r5j

Maybe,
It seems like the NFL was trying to sweep this under the rung.
I do argue about the second part of your posting. The NFL and any professional sports league and any team within these entities are not a rehabilitation or counseling entity. They can simply choose to employ you or not, They choose not to employ a wife beater. Just like they aren't responsible for rehabilitation of Aaron Hernandez and cut ties with him.

Since the emergence of footage showing Ray Rice assaulting his then-fiancee at an Atlantic City casino, NFL officials have maintained they sought elevator surveillance tape from local law enforcement and were unable to obtain it.
This contention has been met with skepticism however, and with good reason. Each NFL team employs a head of security who is expected to develop relationships with both police and the management of establishments frequented by players such as hotels, night clubs, strip clubs and casinos.
In 2009, the NFL wrote up a job description, obtained by CBS News, that defined for teams the responsibilities of the team security director.
The description says the director is required to conduct: "personal visits to local casinos, night clubs, etc. requesting the cooperation of the establishments' management in the event a player or team employee is perceived as a potential problem."
A former NFL team security director who does not want to be identified told CBS News that in his career, there was never a case where he sought surveillance tapes from hotels, nightclubs or local law enforcement and did not obtain it.

The Bears had a similar episode a few decades ago...they signed Christian Peter a DL from Nebraska that had a criminal history of complaints from assaults to rapes, he DID apologize for his past actions at a Bear Presser, but, pressure from women fans in Chicago doomed his tenure, and he didn't see the field much before getting cut...Big difference though, he had no prior history in Chicago, so not a lot of fans rose to his defense, unlike some, imo, misguided, Raven fans, with their "featured" RB.
