It depends. Its a lot like the later seasons of the X-Files, where each episode was pretty darn important to watch, and all related to the one's before and after. If you just watched, say, the 8th episode, you probably wouldn't get a lot of out it.
However, like X-Files, if you watch every episode, its a pretty decent series. The storylines/plots are really good, and the mystery is positively addictive.
The biggest knock against the show (that I've got) is its great at introducing mystery, but abysmal at resolving them. There are at least a dozen outstanding 'huh!?' storylines that have just been touched on (Monster, Frenchwoman, Psychic/baby, comic-book-kid, bunker, etc.)
The best way to watch this show is probably on DVD, so you can watch them properly in order. Though I've found the 're-watchability' to be fairly low.

First of all, the show kicks ass.
And yes, I think tonight is a new eppy. I believe they are showing 4 new episodes for the next 4 weeks.

I beleive the show is a recap show tonight, just going over what has happened so far this season.. leading to the last couple of episodes. Good jumping on point for new viewers.

If you like shows where important questions are never answered and it just goes on and on and on and on, and is full of flashbacks, you'll love it.

Yes, Calgary Sun (ugh) reports 'extended recap' tonight.
Good, I'm busy anyways... though I'd have cancelled plans if it was a new one

I only saw the first Dr. Who but I really don't like the guy who plays the Dr.
I always liked the typical british eccentricities of the old Dr. Whos this one is just trying to be edgy and modern which doesn't work for me.

I love the show. One of only 2 Appointment shows on TV for me, the other being 24.
If you go in expecting it to be about the mysteries of the island, the way the X-Files was about the aliens, conspiracies, monsters, etc., and the way 24 is about the action, you'll probably get frustrated by the fact that they'll go a couple of episodes between touching on any given one of them.
However if you go in expecting a show about the characters, taking lots of time do develop each character's story and the interpersonal dynamics on the island in the context of some interesting and puzzling mysteries then you'll be pretty happy IMO.

I believe tonight is purely a flashback episode. It will cover all of the characters lives before the plane crash.

Well if it's anything like what they did on Sunday for Desparate Housewives (my wife watches it, not me... ) There might be a few things you hadn't seen before, and it will likely give some insight as to what will happen in the next few episodes. Still it's been frustrating because since the new year it seems like they do one new episode every month. It's a show that will be good on DVD because at least that way you can watch all the episodes in a row while the last one is in your memory. I think the fact that ABC had a show they didn't have to cancel shocked the hell out of the network and they didn't know what to do. Really when was the last time ABC had a show you actually watched?
