CFL Playoff Scenarios
Week 19 is going to be the best week of regular season CFL football I can ever remember in terms of what's at stake. The playoffs look like this:
West Division
1. Winner of Calgary/Saskatchewan
2. Loser of Calgary/Saskatchewan
3. Winner of Edmonton/B.C.
4. Crossover - Loser of Edmonton/B.C. (only if Hamilton beats Winnipeg)
East Division
1. Montreal
2. Winner of Hamilton/Winnipeg
3. Loser of Hamilton/Winnipeg (only if Winnipeg beats Hamilton)
4. Misses playoffs - Toronto
Kudos to the CFL schedule makers. It is going to be one heckuva week 19. Three games for all the marbles, only the Montreal-Toronto game will be meaningless.
I'm only a casual CFL fan and not hardcore, but I am absolutely jacked for next weekend - it is going to be epic.

I'm a Riders fan, but I am out of town on November 15th.
So I need the Stamps to finish 1st, then I get to go to the home game on November 22nd (hopefully vs the Riders).
Go Stamps (yuck)

it is awesome Arlo, next weekend will be fun
one thing you missed, which is very low possibility, but should be mentioned though.
If Winnipeg wins against hamilton, and edmonton and BC tie, Edmonton crosses over as they would have one more point then winnipeg and hamilton, and hamilton gets knocked out, as they would lose the season series thus the tiebreaker with winnipeg.
crazy stuff.
i love it.

One game where the winner will get first place.
Two other games where the winner makes the playoffs for sure, and one of the two losers will be out, depending on what happens in the other of the two games.
Love it.

I'm useless for thinking in the evenings, so I have a question - can the Bombers get in if they lose to the Ti-Cats?

No.
The Esks and Lions both have 16 points already and Winnipeg only has 14. The loser of the Edm-BC game will stay at 16, so Winnipeg must win to get 16 points and prevent the crossover.

The best part about all this is that everything comes down to the absolute final game with Hamilton & Winnipeg playing on Sunday.
Winnipeg wins and they host the ESF and eliminate either BC or Edmonton.
Hamilton wins and they eliminate Winnipeg and let either BC/EDM sneak in the back door.
Gonna be one of the greatest finishes ever. Can't wait.

All quite meaningful and meaningless at the same time. No one is beating Montreal in Montreal.

heh. i know what you mean, but we can hope. Edmonton was 16-2 in '89 and lost the division final. Montreal will be tough to beat, and they are determined after losing last year, but all the pressure will be on them, and they will have had a week off after playing for so many weeks with nothing to play for. who knows.
it's cool that so much is undecided in both divisions still. I hope Ham or Win can upset Montreal though

Stamps did it last year with the Grey Cup on the line
thats the beauty of the CFL. Anything can happen, and it usually does.

Yup, football is one game take all, lots of things can happen in one game. One stumble from a defender at the wrong time can change a game.
Everyone knows that Montreal will choke in the playoffs, the question is simply if it'll be in the Eastern Final, or in the Grey Cup.

Oh, I'm with you there. One Grey Cup in 13 years since moving from Baltimore ranks as quite pathetic, given the talent they have had. The only team I think gives the Als problems is BC. If they cross over they could put up a good fight in Montreal. But they'd still have to win in Hamilton as well. And last year a team crossing over won for the first time ever when Edmonton beat Winnipeg.
And yes, I've given up on the Bombers.

you guys are forgetting in case of BC-Edm ties the game, BC stays in 3rd place in the West and the Eskimos hope that Winnipeg lose or tie the game against Hamilton; otherwise they are kaput.
BC will win the tiebreaker over Edmonton. Winnipeg wins the tiebreaker over Hamilton. As for Calgary-Riders game, the only way Calgary gets the 1st place is if they win and not a tie or a lost.

thats right, well most of it. Calgary is 2 points ahead of Sask, so if we tie we get first (the Stamps would stay 2 points ahead)

Actually, those are both wrong.
If the Lions and Esks tie, they'll both have 17 points, so the Esks would crossover and play the winner of the Winnipeg-Hamilton game (if WPG wins, they'd both have 16 points, WPG would win the tie-breaker, and EDM would get 4th in the East with more points than HAM; if HAM wins, they'd have 18 and WPG would have 14, and EDM would get 4th in the East with more points that WPG).
Also, the Stamps are 2 points up on the Riders, so a tie is good enough for the Stamps to win the West. The Riders are the ones who must win because they'd need the win to tie the Stamps, and they own the tie-breaker.

my bad.. that's right Calgary is 2 points ahead right now. I keep thinking they are tied right now.
And getbak is correct about the crossover thing. Winnipeg is 2 points behind BC and Eskimo right now so a tie between Edm-BC will get them a crossover no matter what the outcome on Wpg-Ham is.

BC Lions sucks tonight. No defense, Whitlock is just running around and no threat. BC is now using their 5th QB this season in Zac Champion.
Hahaha, it just makes me laugh seeing Jojuan Armour really look lost out there. He is probably one of the most overrated CFL player. I am so glad that Hufnagel got rid of this guy. At least we now have Tim Johnson and Malik Jackson playing as our LB. Those two are big improvements over Armour.
I don't think BC will be coming back in this game. Only hope they have to make the playoff(crossover) is Hamilton winning against Winnipeg tomorrow. I just feel sorry for Wally though.

Edmonton is absolutely putting the boots to B.C. right now. A surprise perhaps but Printers got knocked out of the game early and you could just tell B.C. was doomed.
I hate Edmonton and Vancouver so much, it's too bad one of these teams has to win the game but it's pretty sweet to see the Lions miss the playoffs*. They were competitive for too many years and they tend to play dirty; nice to see them go back to the drawing board.
Really hope the Stamps win on the road tomorrow, the Eskimos are actually on a roll right now having won three straight I believe - don't want to face them in the playoffs.
* - if Winnipeg wins on Sunday
