Why, oh why does it guess such stupid things when such obvious things would make much more sense? Jeezuz H. Crikey. It absolutely blows my mind how bloody dumb some of the words are that it guesses for me. And then it doesn't even have all the alternate possibilities in the list of things to choose from, so I have to scroll through the letters individually and write the word out manually. Argh! And to top it off, it doesn't automatically save words that I use. Well, sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. Like it's random. Sometimes I want to punch Balsille in the ball-sacky.

That made me laugh.
I would recommend the iphone to you, but I don't think it would suit your needs as I've yet to actually correctly spell the word "for" on my first try. It always ( always) changes the word to "fir". Apparently Apple thinks that I will be text messaging and emailing on the subject of fir trees far more than I'll be using the word "for".

I turned off that automatic text word guesser crap. Hate it on my blackberry, hated other similar things on previous phones. I just do it all on my own.
Takes about half a second more.

I find a lot of people just don't know how to use it or just think of it in the wrong way. You don't look at the screen, you just have to type without thinking and focus on the keys.

That's why I stay away from phones that aren't equipped with a full keyboard. T9 and whatever technology they use for the strange Pearl half keyboard really annoys me sometimes.

I know hey? Worst thing is when it changes and I don't catch it till after I sent my message.

Question.
Whenever I try to type the word "is", it now always comes up as "US", and I have to manually change it. It used to come up correctly but I think i might have accidentally change it somehow. Is there any option to choose what comes up as your first choice?
I have the Pearl..

Hahaha nice rant. I never understood the text guesser on a blackberry but I have a curve so I don't even have the option. But in the end gotta love the berry!

That seems so odd but cool with the trackpad. Basically the 9700 but squished, sounds interesting.

I feel exactly the same way. How many times have I typed away looking at only the keys, review the message, and find that the word "hits" is there instead of "guys".
And yeah, the memory is brutal. I once typed the word "calgarypuck" into the browser addressbar and now in every message where I try to type the word "Calgary", it replaces it with "calgarypuck". Ugh.
But, yeah, everything else in this little device is awesome. It's even a really good telephone!

I'd recommend a firmware update on your phone if you haven't already done so.
A few users at my work have noticed improved "autocorrect" function.
Although for the pearl, the OS is only up to 4.5.0.169 I believe.
The 5.0 software has the most noticeable differences.

If you really don't like the auto correct feature I would suggest trying to get a different berry. Since there are some new ones coming out people are letting their other ones go for cheap. See if you can score a curve (just a little bigger) or another one with a full keyboard. Once you have a full keyboard I bet you will love it much more than the squished keyboard.
