I'm on the fence, love the first 2 Pearl Jam albums but I stopped paying attention after a while. Billy Talent is alright.
Although, I don't need much of an excuse to hang out in the sun and check out hot Calgary women. Still, some garbage on that bill along with the hiphop.

$132.00 for the two-day pass. A little much for that lineup. Last year was $115 or so for Stone Temple Pilots, Tragically Hip, Flaming Lips, Matthew Good, City and Colour and more.
Hopefully they add some more bands.
I'll definitely be there to see Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam..that is amazing. The rest of the acts are kind of mediocre, but what a headliner. I may have to come to Calgary that weekend.

Anyone else disappointed with this lineup? Not really anyone I'd shell out money for.

Well if you factor in how much PJ alone would cost it's really not that bad.

Totally.
I went to Vfest in Perth last year, and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
Smashing Pumpkins
queens of the Stone age
Duran Duran
Modest Mouse
Hot hot heat
The presets
plus a bunch of other local bands that were awesome, and it made our Vfest at Fort Calgary look like a chumpfest. STP was ok, I've seen the hip about 400 times, and The Flaming Lips, while a little nostalgic, were average. I thought that we would be able to get better talent than what came, based on who they were getting to other cities.

Yeah, Canada seems to get the shaft with Virgin fest.
Put it this way, last year Stone temple Pilots was our big headliner (along with Tragically hip the second day), now lok at the Baltimore V-fest from 08.....
Main Stage, Saturday, Aug. 9: Bloc Party, Cat Power, Chuck Berry and The Silver Beats, Citizen Cope, Duffy, Foo Fighters, Gogol Bordello, Jack Johnson, KT Tunstall, Lupe Fiasco, The Offspring, Paramore, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Swell Season and Wilco.
Main Stage, Sunday, Aug. 10: Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, The Black Keys, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bob Dylan, The Go! Team, Iggy & The Stooges, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Nine Inch Nails, She & Him, Shudder to Think, Stone Temple Pilots and Taking Back Sunday.
Stone temple pilots was just a blip in their line-up. They got to watch bands like
Foo Fighters
Jack Johnson
Offspring
bob dylan
duffy
brmb
Kanye West
Lil Wayne
NIN
Stone Temple Pilots
Chuck Berry
Lupe Fiasco
Anyone could find multiple bands they wanted to see. Where as in Calgary, most people would only pay for a weekend pass if they REALLY like one of the headliners.

Well festivals in places like Australia are a totally different thing. Bands don't tour there that often, especially to Perth, so it's not uncommon for them to be packaged together into pretty great festival cards.

Dude, Pearljam's been here once the last 10 years (I think it's even more than that) They don't come to Calgary very often. There will be alot of people that go to V-fest just for them.
Plus Pearl jam puts on a bit of a different show in festivals than their normal arena shows.

I went to Baltimore for this last year and it made the Calgary Virgin Fest look amateur. Amazing festival. The fact that you could drink anywhere just added to it.
On the other hand, they weren't able to put together good acts this summer in Baltimore, so they're having it at the Merriweather Post Pavilion and it's free. Blink 182 and Weezer are headlining.

Bands tour there all the time. I'm pretty sure they do it because it's a coastal thing, where they get to roam down the ocean front and stare at good looking brawds while playing gigs. Their festivals are pretty well known to attract the big names.....check the old Big Day out festivals, Vfest, as well as the Jazz and Blues festivals. I've been to a few and they were awesome.
Have a look at Flameswin's post, it's pretty apparent our Vfest had nowhere near the talent of some of the others. Maybe it's my taste in music, but I was pretty disappointed with what came.

I'll pass. I've seen half of those bands in the last year, and the rest aren't worth that price.

Man maybe its cause I've lived in a small town for the majority of my life and haven't been able to hit up concerts but I'm probably gonna get those VIP tickets for Pearl Jam alone.
