Default U2 Celebrates the Fall of the Berlin wall....by building a wall

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/8344776.stm

U2 was out to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall by having a concert.

To keep out people who didn't purchase tickets, the solution was................to build a wall....

Free tickets....and it was part of the MTV Europe Music Awards. So it was probably done by MTV, as was stated in the article, to get people watching it on TV for the ratings. Definitely doesn't look good, but looks as though it is MTV and not U2 to blame.

I don't understand why it takes MTV to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall. Am I missing something here?

The Wall came down, because MJ dangled his baby out of a Berlin window.

U2 haven't made good music in 20 years.

The greater irony is that U2's last tour was sponsored by RIM, even though Bono is one of the largest shareholders in Palm.

Zooropa was the last great U2 record (1993).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._concert_tours

If you look at the 360 tour they have no reason to shut it down just yet. Besides they are raking in 6.8 million per show If they haven't made good music in such a long time there must be a lot of people getting sick of the same song and dance I don't have any desire to see the 360 tour as I had enough with the Popmart and Elevation tours but they still captivate their audiences.

I'm not sure that really puts much of a dent in his argument.

The only songs I really care for off of Zooropa are Lemon, Numb, and The Wanderer.
IMO No Line on the horizon is actually a stronger album with Magnificent, Moment of surrender, Unknown caller, Fez being born, Breathe, and Cedars of Lebanon being good songs. The only experimental album that U2 ever put out that had more than a few good songs was Passengers. Zooropa included : Babyface, Daddys gonna pay for your crashed car, Some days are better than others, The first time and Dirty day which were all weak songs and that is over half the album.

I generally like U2 and think they have some classic albums, but they deserve a lot of the criticism they get. They are essentially a brand now, not a band. They spend too much time and effort keeping that brand alive and look foolish doing so. This situation is hilarious. Looks good on them. I love that they were previously pimping the Ipod and several years later have a massive tour and commercials with RIM. Next tour brought to you buy Sony Erikson?
