“There were several attempts to revive him but nothing worked,” Larue told the LCN all-news TV channel Monday morning.
Lambert had been considered a shoo-in for victory but ended up in a tight race for nearly two hours after the polls closed, the mayor said. The councillor’s margin of victory ended up being 52 per cent to 48 per cent. The mayor, an ally of Lambert, was also re-elected.
“This victory is nothing to savour,” Larue said. Lambert “had some health problems” that weren’t helped by a demanding campaign, he added.
Lambert, who worked on town finances, will be sorely missed, he added.
“We’re thinking a lot about Mr. Lambert today and his family. He went out full of joy and with a victory in his pocket.”
