Anyone a member of IEEE?

I was wondering if anyone here is a member of IEEE, and if they are, what are the benefits for university student.

Also, what these "Society Membership Dues" mean? Is it additional info for Biomed, Nano ect?

If they are anything like ASET, then the benefits as a student are minimal (though at least ASET doesnt charge students). I would presume that once you graduate, a membership to IEEE is basically like a certification. Resume padding, and very little more. Simply being a member doesnt prove competence, but it could be the difference between an interview and a PFO once HR looks at your resume.

There are companies that want such memberships for that reason.

The IEEE is an excellent organization for networking if you are an engineer. They are always holding free seminars, conferences etc. in varying cities, and these are wonderful opportunities to meet and make impressions on successful people already in the industry.

As for students, I was a member (not sure if I still am, as membership expires), but it is very cheap for students... something like $20 for a year? If you're in university, your university should have an IEEE office. That would be your best bet on getting even more information pertinent to you.
