Thumbs down Exceptionally poor writing.

Everytime I read page 2 or page 5 of the Sun my mind seems to explode from the complete lack of writing ability displayed. I won't mention the authors by name, but it seems that their entire purpose is to string together meaningless strings of words solely to make themselves look more intelligent/clever.

This morning while reading these two pages, and their calls for retribution against the Flames for their H1N1 vaccinations, I had to say something. This isn't the first time i've been annoyed by the writing style portrayed, so don't call me a homer because they are attacking the Flames. (Who went through the correct channels and didn't do anything illegal).

I just have to say that having an opinion is one thing, writing about it while making yourself seem holier-than-thou everytime just makes me lose my patience quite quickly. If I had to do their job for the day, in order to make it seem like the same person was writing, I would simply write some overly opinionated piece about some hot news topic, and then open up my thesaurus and start changing every fifth word into some four syllable toungue twister to make myself look smarter.

See page 2 and 5, I can do it too. /end rant.

Why wouldn't you mention the author's name? People who are poor at their job don't need to be protected from an opinion.

Every so often I read a Rick Bell column just to torture myself.

Poor grammar, weak vocabularies, poor spelling and ambivalence towards conventional rules of the English language are indications of the downfall of society.

But then you read the letters section in the Sun and you realize he's just giving the people what they want.

The Sun just isn't a very good paper. Not even up to the Herald's decidedly middling quality, frankly.

"Silly Hall", 'nuff said about that idiot Bell. Although I have to admit I enjoyed him more when he was a big fat guy with a fedora. Now I hear he is just a racist drunk.

It's true, it seems like they write to influence red-necks to jump on their bandwagon with pretty syllables and inflammatory comments. Granted the readership of the sun probably isn't the upper crust of society, but anyone with a couple neurons bumping into each other up there can see what complete hogwash their writing is.

Agreed. Dowbiggen can write, the Sun is just mindlessly awful and purposely anti-intellectual.

I'm far from a literary genius like Mr. Hemingway, and come to think of it so are Sun columnists.

The guys at the Sun, on the otherhand, are pathetic. I swear most of their writers are only at high school level. I don't profess to have exceptional writing skills by any means, but then again, I don't write columns for a living. You would think they'd at least run it through a spell check. Catching Sun grammar and spelling mistakes is so common, it's actually kind of turned into a game for me.

Pick up the Sun today and read pages 2 and 5, then take a deep breath and restrain yourself from going to the Sun and putting sugar cubes in #2 and #5's gas tanks.

Are you talking about to their actual writing style (vocabulary, grammar, etc.) or the actual content of their articles?

Sometimes I read newspapers and can't believe people who are incapable of writing in clear, concise and grammatically correct sentences are actually paid to do this.

As far as content goes, anyone has a right to an opinion. But it does seem a lot of opinion pieces are poorly researched and written to incite. I think the quality of journalism across the board, from print to other media, has really gone down hill in the last decade to 15 years.

Definitely a little bit of A and a little bit of B. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I completely agree. I also completely agree that it seems alot of opinion pieces are designed to incite. I think this more than anything is what gets me going about the media in general. It's almost like they feel the need to stir the pot, just to see what happens, or to get a reaction / sound byte from politician X.

To be fair its not that I only dislike the quality in the Sun, I completely dislike sensational media reporting in general. Ask me about CNN and that blonde lady who looks like she has some disgusting smell under her nose all the time and my head will explode.
