Sports Trips.....past and present
Just wondering if anyone is planning a trip this year? Where and when?
I try to go to atleast 1 NFL game per year. In the past I have gone to Seattle, Wash DC and Atlanta
This year I'm going to Chicago to see the Steelers/Bears week 2
-thurs- Cubs/Brewers
-fri or sat- Whitesox/Royals
-sun- Steelers/Bears
I am also going to go to Atlanta for the Falcons/Redskins game week 8 and waiting to see the NHL and NBA schedule to plan the rest of the trip.
How about other CPers??

I saw a White Sox/Twins game in Chicago in April. Didn't get to catch a Cubs game as they started the season out of town.
I plan to see my first NFL game this year, planning to go to Phoenix for a Cardinals/Vikings game or to Dallas for a Cowboys/Chargers game. The deciding factor will be decided once the NHL and NBA schedules come out.
And then going to South Africa next year for the World Cup.

I hit Toronto in April and caught Jays opening day, Raptors vs. Knicks and Toronto FC vs Seattle.
We got tickets to soccer just to kind of check it out having never been to a pro soccer game before and I loved it, was a ton of fun.
Last summer I went to UFC in Minnesota, that was an absolute blast as well. Well worth the 300 dollar tickets.

I used to try and get to Kansas City at least once a year. Havn't been for a couple of years now. Went to the Bronx to see the Yankees host the Red Sox a year ago for three games. Tied in a Flames game in Anahiem in February with a trip to Disneyland. Hoping to hit Fenway Park next summer for a couple of games.

Depending on how the timing works, and how poor I am at the time, I'm hoping to catch a Flames game in Phoenix.

I don't know if I'll have enough money, but next season I'd like to try an attend all of the major football derby matches in Western Europe. I'll at least try to attend all of the big derby matches in London.

I'd like to see some hockey in Canada. Seems like a (financial) pipe dream at the moment, but I did buy some wonderful fuzzy boots at a consignment shop the other day.....

My wife and I usually catch a couple of road Flames games every season. This last season, we caught Pittsburgh and Columbus. Last year it was Anaheim & Phoenix. The year before it was Chicago, Minnesota, and Edmonton.
We plan it out once the schedule comes out. We might branch out and do some non-NHL games sometime.
We generally spend a few days in each city and plan a vacation around it. It isn't just a hockey trip. e.g. during the Phoenix/Anaheim trip last year, we chose not to see the game in LA because it would have taken away from our other touristy activities. We'll make it down to LA & San Jose eventually.
It is fun, and I hope to see the Flames play in all 29 NHL cities eventually. And we'll be able to see a lot of great cities across North America.

NFL games in Chicago and Seattle (BTW, to the OP, you can stand on the concourse at soldier field which puts you at the top of the 100 section around midfield, we never touched our 400 level seats).
I've been to other games all over the place for all kinds of sports, but most were due to living abroad so I don't know if they count as trips. Hoping to hit Miami this fall for a Fins game. I've been to sporting events all over Europe and Australia, as well as most of the US. I make a point of hitting games whenever I travel, the stadiums alone make it worth it for me.

I do a Flames game in Edmonton at least once a year....cliche and boring, but every time I go, there seems to be a bigger and bigger group of people.
Next season I plan to see Liverpool FC play live, and I'll have to attend some Euro 2012 matches (since it's in Poland, and I happen to have one of those passports, and a few places to stay there). As far as the world cup Pagal.....call me jealous, that is awesome.

Been to a bunch of places now:
Seen SF 49ers once, going again this year, Oakland 2x, saw Colts/Broncos in Indy, and Bengals/Pats in Cincy 2 years ago, also hit Fenway 2 years ago for Red Sox/Angels, saw Yankees Red Sox in NYC last year, and caught the MNF Eagles/Cowboys in Dallas as well.
Only other travel would probably be Grey Cup 99 in Vancouver... think that's it for me so far.
Want to hit up Chi town to catch the Cubs, and want to do a Flames road trip where we follow the Flames to SoCal or something like that.

Arguably the best sports trip I've been on was going to the 2005 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, Kohler, WI.
5 days in Green Bay allowed us to see Lambeau Field as well as watch Packer training camp. The tournament was great, got to see legends like Norman, and Faldo, watched John Daly shoot an 8 on a par 4, and the tourney went to a playoff!
Vijay Singh won, so it was double good for me.
I went to the NASCAR race in Vegas a few years ago. You don't have to like the sport to have a good time at a race. Everything is so colorful, loud, fast and the ladies aren't too shabby either. I'd recommend for anyone to go.
All of my other trips have been for LSU football, or New Orleans Saints games. LSU is by far more fun, and if you ever have a reason to go to South Louisiana in the fall, take in an LSU tailgate, and maybe even the game if you can fit it in...
I'm going to Seattle in early September to watch LSU play Washington, Game 1 of another championship run for the Bayou Bengals! I'm going to try to fit in a Mariners/Angels game, and a bit of the Bonaroo festival as well.

Best trip ever was going to games 6 and 7 of 1991 World Series in Minneapolis.
Seeing Kirby Puckett hitting the winning home run in game 6.
Then it was Jack Morris pitching one of the finest games ever by shutting out the Braves in 10 inings to win game 7 and the World Series.

Past trips...
Seattle in 03 - caught a bunch of Mariner games.
Was at Game 7 of the 04 final. That kinda sucked. Also caught a Devil Rays-Giants game. Proud to say I booed Barry Bonds all night long.
Memorial Cup in Vancouver in 07. That is something I want to do again. Maybe make the drive to Brandon next year.

about 3 or 4 trips a year, mostly football and baseball. The best trips are usually for college bowl games or SEC regular season games, best atmosphere in all of sports on this continent, outside of championship type games.
Best game I think I've seen was the one where the Stamps returned the 2pt convert to win by one point at the end of the labour day rematch, in about 01 or 02.

I'm trying to convince my friends that we should hit the Pro Bowl in Miami this year. Last couple of years we have done Phoenix and San Diego in November; and while both were good trips; it would be nice to use some of that travel money and vacation time towards going somewhere warm in the middle of winter.

Bit off the map, but on the 4th we were in Spokane to watch the Indians and Vancouver Canadians. Kinda random, but I was driving home from Minnesota and it worked out.
Catching the Mariners and Indians in 3 wks, and plan to hit up a Seahawks game in Sept. or Oct.
