Halloween Houseparty! Need songs to get the girls dancin'!
we are having a big shindig this weekend and our usual DJ is out of town, so we need to improvise with iPod and laptop.
I need a playlist to get the girls at the party up and dancing, and keep them there all night. My musical tastes are a little narrow to Rock and Indie, so I need a little help when it comes to the dance'y stuff.
ETA: We are looking at about 100+ people. 1/2 of which will be skanky girls strutting their best for Halloween. Crantini's and Jello shots are provided by the hosts, and we have a driver for 4 hrs starting at 1am. This is a yearly event, and is known throughout the city as one of the best house parties there is (or at least by our friends) Please help us make it better!
(Yes, this is connected to JohnnyTitan's thread...)
Quick and easy dance music that keeps you from having to put together a long playlist download some of the Bagatelli Brunch episodes from Sirius/XM BPM.
Generally done by Jacques Dumas, it's 3 hours of a professional DJ mixing in one song after another and having a good flow with no commericals, no stopping. Two or three of those and you're fine.
It's going to be more techno-ish than hip-hop-ish. But give one a listen for a bit and see if that'll suffice.

if you are using ipod and laptop, i am guessing you have itunes. try using Genius, that is suppose to find similar songs.
also, in itunes, there is a Radio. there are a few genres there that might fit what you are looking for, with a bunch of radio stations that will have dance music. some are 'commercial free' (no adds, but occasional station plug) with lengthy mixes. you will need to be connected to internet for radio to work.
Edit: you can also try to find some podcast in the itunes store that may fit your needs.

What trout said, plus...
Madonna - Get Into the Groove
Prince - Why you want to treat me so bad / I wanna be your lover
And I don't know what your crowd is, throw some high energy techno in there
Get some oldschool 70s funk as well.
This is a good one, especially since he passed and it is cool again to listen/dance to MJ.
I don't know a lot about DJing, but from my experience getting them on the floor is the easy part, keeping them there is the hard part. So I would save Thriller for clutch timing when the floor is starting to empty, pop that on and I guarantee it will be full instantly.
Besides that, Monster Mash is an obvious choice for the theme..
For hip hop type music I would stick to the crap everyone knows, like Kanye West (shudder, but people love it), Black Eyed Peas, Cat Dolls, basically if you want the hot girls to dance you have to stick to the top 100 pop hits.. The number one mistake DJ's make is trying to get a little to out there, and as a fellow Indie lover I know that not everyone can appreciate our taste in music. People only want to dance to music they know, and know well.. that is the best tips I can give hope they aren't just common sense and help out a bit.
Oh also - Pour Some Sugar On me, girls just fricken' love that song.. and Buck Cherry - Crazy Bitch, I don't think I have ever seen a girl standing around at the bar when this song is on.. they are all on the dance floor. That new Black Eyed Peas song Shots Shots Shots is really popular as well... I will think of more as the day goes on.
