Default Free flu shot, anyone?

I have a chance for a free flu shot but have heard that flu shots can be dangerous and can cause medical issues. I know a chiropractor who advises against flu shots. I know he's not a doctor, but anyway.... Would you get a free flu shot if it were offered?

Yep, I get mine every year. Your chiropractor should stick to what he's good at.

Yes. Your chiropractor is fear mongering - find a new one.

No flu shot: You have the possibility of contracting the flu.

Flu shot: You have a smaller possibility of contracting the flu, but you pay for it by being slightly sick all year.

The only times I've been sick in the last 10 years are the years that I got a flu shot.

Also, do you know that he doesn't have aids? He never mentioned it.

Also, it was loosely quoted from a stand-up routine I saw once.

The only winters I haven't been sick are the ones in which I've had a flu shot. I missed the free one last year given by my employer, but I will be pushing pregnant women and children out of the way to get mine when they offer it this autumn.

Yeah, if I want medicine related advice I'll consult a chiropractor. Or not.

I suppose I should disclose that I have very little faith in chiropractors in general though. My wife was an ICU nurse in the Foothills Hospital's Neuro Ward for many years, and she saw enough patients that were put there by their chiropractor to make me pretty leery of them. They're good for joint stuff, but I wouldn't let them anywhere near my spine or neck.

As for the flu shot ... haven't you heard? It's a big conspiracy to kill everybody. The internetz sez so.

A chiropractor aggravated, instead of helped, my brother's spinal injury moving it from a case that could have been treated through physical therapy to one that needed emergency surgery. Couldn't sue the because he was a family friend. No need to say that I will never ever go to a chiropractor for anything that a massage therapist cannot do.

That's an all too familiar story. Aside from the cases my wife saw at work, my sister-in-law had an experience very similar to what you describe. Pretty scary stuff.

No, listen to your chiropractor about your immune system.

I, on the other hand have a chance for a free chiropractic session but have heard chiropractic sessions can be dangerous and can cause medical issues. I know a proctologist who advises against chiropractic sessions. I know he's not a chiropractor, but anyway.... Would you get a free chiropractic session if it were offered?

Honestly, I would not trust a chiropractor with anything spine related. Their solution is always to manipulate and crack backs, which I'm super paranoid with. Add onto it the fact they self anoint themselves as doctors (even though they aren't) kind of further weakens their credibility in my mind.

Here is the truth about flu shots.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/HEALTH/10/31...hot/index.html

Honestly, it's a bunch of bunk and my experience has been that the people who get the flu shot end up sick every time. My mom and dad used to get one every year while I would not and they would always end up getting sick. There are so many different strains of flu and the shot "supposedly" guards against 3, that's it. I think all it actually does is taxes your immune system for no reason thus making it easier for a different strain or some other virus to make you sick. Don't believe the crap about a flu shot preventing the flu, it does not work!

I always come to CP for opinions on health problems. They always seem to know more than any doctor would. Why trust a doctor when someone with no medical experience can give you sound advice.

Does a chiropractor go to med school? Seems like he's as qualified as any of us...
