Default LF: Someone to poly my garage ceiling

Clearly I have ZERO skill when it comes to putting poly up on my garage ceiling. 2 days of non-stop cursing at it have lead me to post here. Between lights, garage door openers and door tracks - it seems as if my garage has won.

If anyone has the proficiency needed to do this and wants to make some cash.....please PM me! I'm willing to help out if needed, but I need to get this done somewhat soon so I can get some insulation blown in.

Please help, for the love of my family.

You do know that you have to have drywall or OSB on the ceiling as well.

Poly by itself isn't enough to hold the weight of the insulation.

At least that's what i was told by the company I got a quote from.

How much were you quoted btw?

How long until you put the drywall up? I want to have my garage attic done as well but the company told me it had to be drywalled or at least have OSB for it to hold

BS^

A good thick Poly fastened propperly will last for decades and contain the insulation without the need to apply drywall.

What do you mean by properly installed?

Just put a crap load of staples in it?

Thats what I thought too.

I have good poly and am stapling every 6-8 inches.

Are we talking about blown in insulation? Because for bat insulation I can see there not needing to be drywall. (I installed my bat insulation then put up the vapour barrier.) But I can see somebody who is blowing in insulation insisting on something stronger than staples and vapour barrier holding it all up. Especially if they aren't the ones putting up the poly.

Well, it looks like I will completing the poly myself and will more than likely rent the insulation-blowing-device right from HD and do it myself. (due to longer than desired delays to get it done professionally).

I have no idea the weight of blown-in cellulose insulation, but once I get it done, I'll let you guys know the outcome. Maybe someone at the HD rental place will have an idea if the poly will hold it up.

So, finished the poly work and rented a Home Depot insulation blower this weekend. Poly was a pain, but got completed. The insulation blower was great and only took a couple hours to do a 27x25 garage.

The poly is holding the weight, but I'm not going to leave it. It's probably my lack of polying expertise, but I could see there being several points of failure if I left it just the way it is.

So, just when I thought I could take a break - it looks like drywall will be my next project. Yay!
