Default Another tire question - sensors

I need winter tires for my Rav4 Toyota. They have these sensors on each tire ($89) that warn you when the tire pressure gets low. The wife booked an appointment and took the price so I'm not even sure if the $89 is for each sensor. I've talked to a tire guy who says he'd throw them away. If I don't put them on, a warning light will light on my instrument panel. I'm tempted not to put them on the winter tires and put up with the light.

Sometimes technology is a pain. What should I do? What would you do?

Unless it makes some type of noise constantly, I would just leave it alone. A light on your dash can be easily ignored.

You must be talking about wheels (the metal part) versus tires (the rubber part). If I were you I'd just but the winter rubber on your factory rims. You'll save money and won't have to look at a warning light all winter.

You must have the limited or newer model than I do. Easiest thing...disconnect the wire. On the subject of Rav4's never fill the gas tank all the way or your stupid charcoal canister will go and that a $1200 part you can only buy from Toyota.

I don't want to use the same rims. They're not that expensive and I like the idea of not taking tires off rims each time, which I think will reduce their lifespan. I am leaning toward not putting the sensors on, however.

Thanks for all the advice. Keep it coming.

How can I do this:

Check with Toyota that you indeed have the sensors - I have a 2007 Limited and mine doesn't have the sensors -- saved me a bunch of money

Didn't we just have a discussion about TMPS in a Rav4 yesterday?

^^ Yes, and by the same OP.

In future, if you start a thread about a very specific topic- don't start another the next day about the exact same thing.
