Default Dog risks life to save another Dog.

This is so cool, altruism in the animal kingdom.

Wonder how many people would have done the same for their fellow man?

Tough call on this one, but the video is a good gauge of if someone is a glass half empty or glass half full type of person.

It would be awesome to think that this was truly an act of valor by the rescuing dog, but considering the dogs were likely feral, it is just as likely the dog was dragging the other dog off the road for lunch.

After a but of research, it turns up in a lot of blogs that after the incident, the missing piece of the video shows the hit dog was clearly dead and dragged away by a road worker by the tail. After being hit by a car at that speed and also run over again by another, it is very very remote that the animal survived. If you look closely, the appears to be alot of blood and innards on the road. Even had it survived, most countries that have not yet reached developed nation status like Chile, are going to go out of their way to care for and rehabilitate a dog so gravely injured. The jist of the commentary also talks about the wild dog problem in Chile, not the heroics of the saving animal.

If it inspires some people as a reminder of how an animal can have more bravery and compassion than most humans, great. I have seen videos on sites like LiveLeak where humans are hit by cars and left to die in the street. By onlookers more curious than worried.

However, it also may be a very sad commentary on how animal over population has driven these animals to such desperation they are willing to risk their lives to cannibalize one of their own as a means of survival.

Even though my altruistic side wishes this to truly be what the video describes, dog saves dog, my narcissistic side tells me the true explanation is likely a lot more grim and depressing than anyone would truly like to believe.

And before everyone jumps on me... I am a dog owner and lover. I do realize the level of compassion a dog can offer. But on a flip side, dogs and cats have also been known to eat their owners when they have died and there is no source of readily available food.

Wow, from the video it doesn't look like people even try to get out of the day of the dog, or at least slow down.

My dog was almost run over, but the van put on the brakes and stopped literally at the last second.

The question is, will the cat be eating crow if he ever lost a bet?
