Default XBOX live question

So Im trying to get on to xbox live to get the roster updates for NHL10 (Tavares!!). Im not very computer savy so the question I have is I have wireless internet in the house....the router is on the top level of the house and my laptop and xbox are in the basement (man-cave). Do I need the xbox wireless adapter or can I run a cable from my laptop to my xbox? As my laptop has wireless capabilities.

Yeah. I run it through my laptop. Don't need to spend the $60 or whatever it is, but it is a pain in the arse sometimes setting it up.

If I remember correctly, all I had to do is was plug cable from xbox to computer. Then I went into network connections, right click on wireless and say 'allow to share with other computers or whatever it says'.

After that, turn on your xbox and it should work. Sometimes it doesn't work and I think you need to plug in your cable before you turn the xbox on.
