Default Habs and Blues trade goaltenders in major shakeup

The Habs and Blues have hooked up in a major deal that sees three significant assets moving each way. Here's the deal:

To Canadiens

Ryan Miller (73)
Braydon Coburn (67)
Sergei Samsonov (65)
$2mm (to even salaries out)

To Blues

Evgeni Nabokov (74)
David Booth (68)
Brooks Orpik (65)

The reason the Habs made this deal was evident with the way pre-season went and the 1st game of the regular season. Nabokov was outplayed by Hiller in nearly every game and Booth had really struggled on the scoresheet, even when playing on the 1st line.

We were able to get Ryan Miller back who is 7 years younger and will be a stabilizing force for years to come. We also got Coburn who is a top young d-man on we feel has some untapped offense. Samsonov is a decent enough 2nd line winger who can hopefully put some goals in the net. His DF isn't a huge concern as he will be playing with Koivu and Eriksson who have strong DF's.

It was tough moving Booth because he is a 30 goal scorer, and Orpik is a defensive rock, but we needed a shakeup and that's what we got. Hopefully Miller, Coburn and Samsonov fit in with the squad.

Thanks Spike for the easy deal considering the size of it, I hope it works out well for both sides.

Going to Montreal are goalie Ryan Miller, defenceman Braydon Coburn and spare winger Sergei Samsanov. Coming back to St Louis are Evgeni Nabakov, Brooks Orpik and winger David Booth.

Both teams needed a shake up and I know I needed a bit more up front in order to compete. Booth is a 77sc and will help put a few more pucks in the back of the net.

Loosing Coburn was tough, but Orpiks 81Df is nothing to sneeze at. The Miller for Nabakov swap is pretty straight forward other then age and salaries...I'm hoping this move gets the Blues out of the doldrums we've been in and refreshes the roster, allowing us to compete this season.

Pretty solid deal for both teams. Big goalies going each way. I think the winner of this deal will be decided in how the new players play for their new teams. Could easily be a win-win deal if all players fit in the way they should.

Nice, even deal for both sides. Well done to each GM.

I can't believe Simmer would make a trade where he doesn't absolutely dominate the other guy. I can make an argument for either side as to why I like it better for that team so it does appear to be an even deal. I wonder how hard Spike had to argue from the initial low ball offer. Hardy har har har!

Actually, you'd be surprised Chad that I don't try and win every deal...

And Spike can vouch for this that this was the first offer I made. Don't feel bad Syl, I just lowball you because you are the Coilers, players want to leave more than they want to go...I'm just adding realism into the game.
