Default Movie: The Soloist

Just watched it. It clocks in at just under two hours and has a story arc that lends itself to end at about an hour and twenty or thirty, but the story continues to flesh out to the two full hours and rightfully so.

The whole film is essentially Robert Downy Jr. starting the film in similar form as Iron Man and ending it and emotional wreck. He even cries. Lol.

Also, Jamie Foxx is outstanding. I loved him as Ray Charles. This movie is the farthest thing from, except that his character is a Julliard drop out.

It at first came across as a nice, low-budget cash grab utilizing two mega stars. What changed my mind is that both actors cared about their characters genuinely and the performance as well. The synopsis on the DVD case reveals nothing about the actual plot of the film.

This is good. It is deep (without being over-bearing), and a great insight into mental disease.

See it. It is very much worth it.

I will see it because the wife wants to but I'm pretty sure I ain't gonna like it. Jamie Foxx completely distracts me in movies. I know people think he is a good/great actor but I always feel like he is winking at the camera somehow.

Not typically my kind of movie and even I enjoyed it.

Good film.

I saw it when it was in theaters and loved it. Steve Lopez's columns are usually pretty entertaining as well.

I thought this film treated the problems of homelessness with fine precision. Both the callousness that leads some people to excuse the homeless as simply lazy bums and the altruism that seeks to make everyone better are exposed as insufficient for dealing with homelessness. There was a lot wisdom in the film.

However, I thought the storytelling and direction was very uneven. For a movie that handle a controversial theme with a lot of subtlety, I thought it was a shame that story tended to loss steam at a lot of places. It's been a while since I watched it, but I remember the second act just dragging on and on.

Saw it on a sneek peek/debut screening when it came out (late spring I think?). I enjoyed it, but you pretty much knew what you were getting. No big surprises or heavy thinking.

I agree the acting was very good, and that characters fun to watch. Some very nice moments and a good tale.
