Default spontaneous keyboard confusion.

My keyboard seems to have switched itself into European mode or something. How do I fix thisÉ. Not to be a drain on anyone``s time but my time is far too valuable to be mucking about for an answer.

My best regards,

the doozmeister.

Regional settings need to be US- English. Not Canadian English.

There is a combo of alt-shift or alt-cntl that you press to fix it. There was a tread here about it before. Search vista keyboard or something like that.

I do this once every couple of months and then it takes me 5 minutes to figure out the key combination to switch it back.

with a three year old using our computer at home, we always get interesting things going on. Different font sizes, funky characters on the keyboard. Good times.

This happens alot, its due to windows switching itself (or sometimes certain apps only) to that keyboard layout.

Just go to control panel --> Regional and language settings --> Keyboards --> select and delete the french canadian or bilingual keyboard option.

Should be good to go instantly (may need restart though).

Microsoft in it's infinite wisdom decided to make the shortcut to change the keyboard language settings CTRL+SHIFT.

If you're using Vista and you're getting that stupid E character in place of punctuation, just hit CTRL+SHIFT twice.

You can also follow the advice above to disable the switching entirely.

This happens because your region is set to Canada which by default comes with both the British English and French Canadian keyboard mappings.
