Game 12: Bc lions at stampeders
Changes were made after Stamos losing to Hamilton Tiger Cats. Changes were needed because of the injury to Ryan Thelwell (out for the season). Calgary already lost 2 veteran receivers this season and the rookies Jackson, Ryan and Chambers couldn't replace them. That prompted Coach and GM Hufnagel to pick up 2 veteran receivers from Winnipeg in Bryant (led Winnipeg in receiving last season) and Arjee Franklin (a non-import receiver). Both players will definitely help the Stamps in the next few games to come. No announcement yet if both players will suit up but I guarantee they will. In order to pick those 2 veteran players, we have to give 3 promising young players in R Jabari Arthur, R Titus Ryan and DL Odell Willis. Sad to see all 3 go but something needs to be done.
OFFENSE: That was the worst offensive output the Stamps ever played this season. Burris passed for 13 yards in the first half and ended up with a little over 100 yards after the game. Receivers were dropping passes(veterans and rookies alike). The only offensive thing that work for the Stamps is the running of Joffrey Reynolds.
There is huge possibility that OL Rob Lazeo will be back for the Stamps unfortunately we will probably not have OL Jesse Newman due to shoulder injury. Expect to see Tim O'Neill stay as a centre, and Lazeo play on Newman's position.
DEFENSE: I thought Defense played well against Hamilton but most of those good plays were nullified by dumb and stupid penalties. The two newcomers for this season Tey George and Charleston Hughes committed some roughing penalties. Yes that was their first game but still inexcusable. I am sure both players will avoid the dumb penalties this time.
With Hughes and George coming back to Stamps, the leading QB sackers for the Stamps in Odell Willis was a healthy scratch vs Hamilton. Willis then was dealt to Winnipeg. According to the Herald this morning, Brandon Browner will be back and DB Dee Webb will replace DB Ron Amadi.
SPECIAL TEAM: Now that Titus Ryan is gone, who will replace him as punt returner and kickoff returner? Chances are Markus Howell will go back returning punts again while Demetrius Summers coming back as a kickoff returner. I am not sure if Bryant return punt or kicks before though. Sorry I am not big fan of Marcus Howell returning punts at all.
********
Former Stamps MLB Jojuan Armour been mouthing off on how bad the defense became after he left. Sorry dude, I don't think I ever seen you play better last season. Last season Armour made more mistakes than anyone in the team. He wasn't as good as MLB Tim Johnson is right now and the reason for defense success last season was because of the plays of Labinjo, Hughes, James, Carpenter, Browner, Smith and Anderson. Armour most of the time was invincible. I sure hope our defense show ARmour and the BC Lions how good they are this season.
Stamps need to pressure Pierce a lot on this game. The DLine and LB needs to stop the run. Also, Stampeders offense cannot afford to start slow and drop too many balls. Burris need to start mixing up the play early. Use Reynolds a lot, the throw short passes then bang throw some deep passes to Bryant.
Also, no more dumb and unneccessary penalties!!
MORE UPDATES TO COME BEFORE GAME TIME.
GO STAMPS GO!!!

Dwayne Carpenter is not playing tonight. Injury?
No excuse for those 2 special team penalties. The first one by a newcomer Dee Webb would have start the Lions at the end zone then the too many men penalty is a no-no. Instead of getting the ball before the end of the 1st half, they have to defend the Lions again. Luckily BC couldn't capitalize on it.

Well so far the Calgary D is spending most of the time of the field. Team doesn't look sharp really, too many penalties already.
7-0 Lions.

As an impartial observer, that was another key penalty by Webb.

Penalties so far: Dee Webb (No yards), Stamps special team (too many men), Browner (offside), Dee Webb(interference). We are talking about in a span of less than 4 minutes.

Blimey, Calgary's defense is a sieve. 52 yard catch and run by B.C.
And...Touchdown P. Jackson, 14-7 B.C.

Webb is having an absolutely brutal game, even with a fumble recovery.

Looks like they're both lighting it up now after a slow start.
Could be a 38-37 classic.

That pass attempt to the crowd was great, you could tell Burris didn't do it on purpose because he was looking at his hand after like "wtf just happened!"

shootout at the OK Corral. Wow, the offense on both teams answering back so soon.
Joffrey Reynolds is having a monster game so far. I just hope they won't abandon him on the 2nd half. I like what Burris is doing so far with mixing up the plays. Hand off to Reynolds, throw the ball and even run the ball himself. Offensive linemen are starting to play well with all those blocking. Reynolds also shows he can block as well.
Now, if the Stamps defense can play the 2nd half the way they ended the 1st half (last few possessions by Lions). Run defense needs to improve. If Dee Webb still struggle I guess it's time to put in Keon Raymond in there.
After the first half Calgary is ahead by 17-14. 2 TD by Henry Burris and a field goal by Sandro after Burris overthrew Copeland at the endzone.

I'm loving the run game, Reynolds and Burris are just destroying them. Now in the 2nd half they should be able to exploit the Lions playing up close to scrimmage and get the receivers open. I'm surprised they've only gone to Bryant twice, and both times early - he looks like a different player from what he did with the Bombers and is apparently pumped up. Going deep to him occasionally would really help out the slots underneath, and he obviously has the speed for it.
Craig Dickenson needs to wake up the special teams, or wake himself up - that first BC touchdown wouldn't have happened except for that absolutely inexcusable too many men penalty. Every week they make mistakes, and it's costing big-time. Something needs to change.

Stamps lucky there, Suitor was right by my thinking. Not going to complain here - and another great catch by Copeland!

Touchdown Copeland. That has to be as close as you can possibly get to catching a ball just before you go out of bounds. What a catch!! Not sure about the previous play though, would have to look at the rules to be sure if that should be ruled a catch.
24-17 Stamps.
edit - a quick look at the rule book didn't find an answer.
