Default Obama on Letterman....

Who saw this tonight? What did you think?

Every time I see this guy, I am blown away by what a superstar this guy is, and how lucky the USA is to have someone in office like this, especially right now. The guy is so incredibly articulate, sensible, well spoken, and open to change. I am especially blown away how he is not afraid to call out the cronies in Washington. Even if you disagree with some of his views or policies, you still want to listen to them and even reconsider where you stand. Tonight it finally dawned on me, that my 'prejudice' against Americans in recent years has been more a reflection of their leader, not the citizens. That last buffoon made America hard to like, I must say now I am proud to be America's hat. Now if we could only find such an incredible leader for our country.

I saw the end of the Obama interview and my only thought was, "why isn't Ferguson on yet"? I would love to see Dave circa 1988 interview the President though.

i never watch Letterman, but made a point to tonight because of Obama (but man is Letterman's monologue ever painful to sit through). Obama is easily the most charismatic political figure i've seen in my lifetime, and he really seems to have a clear grasp of what's wrong with the US and what needs to be done to fix it. it's too bad the extreme right wing is doing everything it can to sabotage him, America would be a lot better off if he could get his plans for reform through

I like that he's more of a people person, but I think he should also not be on all these shows as well. Torn, I might say.

If I was an American, I'd be hoping that Obama will be becoming more like Tony Blair over the time. So incredibly articulate, sensible, well spoken leftie with naive dreams, gradually coming to his senses when facing the reality and moving towards the centre ground.

But I am not holding my breath.

A fairly pragmatic guy at the left of centre Washington Post today examines "why a chunk of the country seems so ticked off at Barack Obama."

Obama is a lot like my best friend - eloquent, very perceptive, seems to know what needs to be done... in short, talks a great game, but DOESN'T DO ANYTHING. He could be a great leader, but great leaders don't delegate their leadership to Nancy Pelosi.
Gad, I haven't watched Letterman in about 10 years...

To me he's like that dude in the white suit standing at the back of the room during a ninja fight. He looks awesome, he has this great aura, and you're hoping he does something because it will probably be the coolest thing ever. Then he just leaves, he doesn't do anything he just leaves.

With Obama, he has to watch out for over exposure, eventually if he doesn't get something done people are going to see him as a blow hard and it will kill any chance at a second term.

And putting him on a late night show where he's hit with stupid softball questions? You might as well make him the guest host on SNL or worse yet mad T.V. singing "C$$k in a box 2" with Justin Timberlake.

I don't want to know the president on a personal level, just like I don't care about the Prime Minister on a personal level, I want to know that things are progressing and happening.

I want my leader to be a duck, no activity on the surface looking a little aloof and quite in control, while the legs under the water are thrashing away keeping my nation afloat.

Not sitting on David Letterman being asked when he became a black man.

Surely you forgot the green text.

Please tell me you forgot the green text.

And what is this about Obama being open to change? Is he open to change when certain Democrats are calling for him to back up and start over with the health care bill?

No he's not. In fact he wants to play dirty politics in order to get the bill passed in the first place.

Oh, right.....he's only open to change when he can change things according to what he wants.

If by "call out the cronies", you mean call out the cronies into high ranking positions within his Cabinet. If you scratch "hope and change", you get "do as i say, not as i do."

"Incredible" as in so implausible as to elicit disbelief! And it's not so much that Canada is America's hat as it is that America is now Canada's ass. Who woulda thunk it?!?!

I have a lot of faith in Obama, but I will not measure his success or failure yet. Things take time, especially when you have as much on your plate as he does. And yes the extreme right, reactionaries I suppose, needs to fkkk off. They are the one's that truly hate America and are trying to destroy it. And I'm not proud to be America's "hat" quite yet =p.

Now you're using semantics to make a ridiculous, politically-minded argument. If you have a legitimate complaint about Obama, feel free to post it, but don't spam every thread about the president with sound-bites you've cribbed from Glenn Beck.

Your post deserves a thanks for the first 2 sentences, and a go back to watching MSNBC for the rest.

He won the election, so he gets his 4 years to prove that he can accomplish something meaningful - but dont expect everyone to swallow his swill lock stock and 2 smoking barrels. 2 of the 4 for sure are democrat controlled so he doesnt have any excuses.

I am waiting to see how he preforms the magic trick of a new govt run health care plan that wont cost middle income taxpayers anything - he plans on funding it through cuts of medicare (wont add a dime to the deficit). If you want to watch Obama in action, watch George Stephanopoulos interview of him on abcnews.com where he says forcing some americans to pay for govt healthcare is not the same as a new tax. Even left humping Greek scratches his head over that one.

If he can do everything he says in this video - then wow he really is the saviour - one wonders why he isnt now trying to find those savings in medicare to help with the financial crisis the US is facing.

Sorry, but I forgot, because he is Black, everyone who disagrees with him is a racist right?

The funny thing about Obama and his 'no new tax' is how he's outright lying about it.

There is a excise tax involved. Too bad the majority of the people don't even know what that is, so Obama will be able to soundbite his way around it.

Quote:
Obama and Stephanopoulos got in a testy exchange over the matter Sunday on "This Week."

"Under this mandate, the government is forcing people to spend money, fining you if you don't. How is that not a tax?" the host asked.

Obama argued that the government would be providing tax credits for those who have trouble affording coverage, and that Americans who have insurance are already paying hundreds extra in premiums to cover uncompensated care.

"That may be, but it's still a tax increase," Stephanopoulos said.
"No. That's not true," Obama said. "I absolutely reject that notion."
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009...-obama-denial/

So, the government forces you to spend money, and if you refuse, you get fined, and that isn't calling taxing them? Gotta love the soundbites.

Based on the info in your quote the taxpayers are already paying for these services (through higher premiums) - Obama is only shifting the responsibility to those who are receiving them (the currently uninsured).

We were all good until someone decided his softball Letterman interview was worth a new thread - if we had a new thread everytime he did a TV interview or speech of sorts we wouldnt have any room left for all the poo threads

He did 4 Sunday morning programs with no one mentioning anything - I had hoped we were home clear.

Do you understand how politics works? If the being the president was as cut and dry as you make it out to be, Al Gore would've been president for the last 8 years. Obama, if anything, is a brilliant campaigner and knows how to convey his message to the average joe. If Obama is trying to drum up the support of the American people for his healthcare reform, appearing on C-Span isn't going to do it. He has to use popular mainstream outlets to get to the average person so they can understand what he's trying to accomplish. The sad fact is, shows like Letterman, Oprah, The View, etc. are going to allow him to reach a massive audience that otherwise might not watch a news program. If using these outlets are to your advantage, why not do it?

If he makes a few jokes here and there, that's all part of the game. Have you ever had to broker a contract or negotiate a deal? The guys who earn contracts aren't the guys who sit there and go through the motions like a robot, it's the guys who display a bit of personality and know how to grease the wheels to get things done.
