Obviously I'm hoping that Karlsson is another guy who jumps right over from Sweden. He is playing for Farjestad this season, replacing Gustavsson as #1 goaltender. He actually is a couple inches taller than The Monster. He has already signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks, and the Sharks loaned him back for this season.

And really we could have had Gustavsson, Philly grabbed him really early (about January?) and before the hype really set in.

I did sort of know about Jonas, because he was their goaltender in the 2008 playoffs and I had watched them a few times in order to watch Brunnstrom. Jonas signed an extension with Farjestad so I didn't think he had plans to come over.

I wonder who the best "prospect" signing of this type is in the history of the CPHL? Niklas "The Goalie" Backstrom must have been one, and I'm sure The Mule wouldn't have been drafted.

I was hoping to "Jonas" both Karlsson and Wesslau. So one is good enough. Both are wild cards but Wesslau intrigued me more. He hasn't signed with anyone but I feel he'll become like a Gustavsson/Brunnstrum tour next summer. Has out up great numbers so far so with Lou in Philly and Howard/Larsson/Gustavsson/Montoya/Wesslau in the minors we won't bother drafting a goalie through the entry draft for sometime.

There have been some good players that were signed as UFA's I would say Backstrom would have to be the best one. I can recall a few more unsigned guys making an impact as well.

I think my personal best UFA signings came together when I picked up Yandle and Quick after both went undrafted in the CPHL draft. I also picked up NHLers Purcell, Brouwer and D'Agostini so it goes to show that there are some roster players to be had for free if you act quick enough.

The only one I've snagged is Andrew MacDonald, and he looked good last night for the Isles, and will probably make the team. Hoping that some of the 20 or so other guys I signed do something one day.

I signed Marc-Eduoard Vlassic as a UFA when I was Devils GM once upon a time ago. Thats the best player I ever found as a UFA. Silly thing about Backstrom was that 29 GM's let him through waivers after the Wild signed him.

David Perron was a UFA guy the Wild signed as an overaged guy who wasn't drafted.

Johan Franzen was drafted by the Thrashers though in 2004 as we didn't have the passed over draft guys as UFA's until Agents came about during the summer of 2004.

No doubt things are a lot more competitive these days to sign undrafted free agents. It's hard to compete in the league when you have a full time job it seems now! Thankfully I don't anymore so I should be able to make my team better.

You also signed some chump named Pardy hours before I was hoping to do the same a couple of years ago!

The Wild have been lucky with few UFAs over the years:
- Nick Backstrom
- Freddie Norenna
- TJ Oshie
- David Perron
- Curtis Glencross
- Kevin Bieksa
- Chris Campoli
- Rene Bourque
- Viktor Tihkonov
- Ville Leino

Backstrom obviously was my best one - and I managed to get him through waivers.
However its a lot tougher now -teams are really pouring over resources where as before there were only a couple of us doing it.

Ducks suck at signing prospects under the radar.
