Default US Open 2009 Tennis

I can't believe there isn't a thread for this yet.
It's a great week of tennis, with all but 2 (Troicki and Ferrer) of the top seed men making into the 3rd round, and all but 2 (Roddick and Simon) advancing through to the 4th.

My money has Murray making it to the final, and I hope Roger can make it through for a rematch of last year.

The big story though so far, has to be the 17 year old American, Melanie Oudin. After defeating Elena Dementieva (4) in a 3 set battle, she has gone on to do the same against Sharapova (29), and Petrova (13).

In all three of her matches, she dropped the first set, but has gone onto to win in fantastic 3 set matches. She becomes the youngest American to enter the quarter finals of the US open, since Serena Williams did it 10 years ago.

All in all, a wicked week of tennis so far, and it's shaping up to be another great week once again.

Lets go Federer!

I watched the first set and first game of the second set of Oudin/Sharapova and I would've bet my paycheck after that she was done. She must've made one hell of a comeback because she looked beaten.

Late in that first set she broke Sharapova and then promptly gave her server away by losing 4 straight points to Sharapova.

Impressive that she won.

It's amazing how she's been able to do it, considering that most of the individual parts of her game aren't great....okay forehand, weak backhand, weak serve, very quick though.

I guess heart can take you far.

We might see a Nadal/Federer final assuming they are on seperate brackets. I'm cheering for major #16

Sharapova helped her out by whacking both her serves ten feet beyond the baseline like 50 times. Well it seemed like that many. Was nice seeing Oudin win but the tennis wasn't exactly spectacular.

Oops! 24 hours after you post this thread, Murray loses in the 4th round to Cilic.

I know i'm jumping ahead, but the Del Potro/Nadal semifinal match should be really good. Whoever wins that I think will lose to Federer in the finals.

Ya WTF Murray. He played a horrible, horrible match. After dominating his other matches and looking so good coming in, I can't believe how badly he stunk it up today. He simply looked deflated, like a Murray of two years ago, when he would seemingly give up half way through and just stop caring.

I'm stoked on the late match tonight, Nadal vs Monfils. I really hope Monfils can step up and we can see a good match from both players.

Ya a Del Potro/Nadal semi would be wicked. I'd be pulling for Del Potro, but I'm not even sure why.

Anyways, Let's go Federer.

Oh and for those wondering, Oudin's next match is tomorrow at 5 pm MT.

Kuznetsova will own Oudin, I believe. The Cinderella run has to come to an end, right? And when those magical runs end, they usually end hard.

Kuznetsova lost tonight in the 4th round. Wozniacki will face Oudin in the QF's.

Djokovic and Johnny Mac having a hit.. This was very entertaining. Most people hate Navak but this is a classic.

I was pretty worried watching that Nadal match last night, he didn't look himself at all for the first while. I was wondering if his injuries were still an issue.

Then he started to show flashes of his old self. I was surprised at how vocal the crowd was for Monfils, I don't get it, Nadal is amazing to watch, and he is always a class guy.

Definitely want to see a Federer/Nadal match for the final. I like them both, but would have to give Roger the edge.

I don't know about that, but she really has a great, infectious smile. Simply lovely.

Oudin was unceremoniously dumped, as I suspected. Not a huge surprise, of course. Good for her for getting so far.

148-0 when winning the first 2 sets. Just crazy!

Not to mention 22 straight grand slam semifinal appearances. That is disgusting.

Federer vs Dorkovic in the semis.

Del Potro/Cilic play in the QF's tomorrow (Del Potro should win pretty easily with the way he is playing) and Nadal/Gonzalez play in the other QF's (Nadal should get through in 4 sets).

I think it is so cool they have a wheelchair division, too bad only 8 people show up to watch it. It's pretty crazy how quickly they can move around with those things.

That would be like Tiger finishing top 10 in 22 straight majors. Just nuts!

Clijsters - Williams just ended with a ton of drama.

Williams to line judge: "I'm going to F-ing shove this ball down your f-ing throat. You hear me? I swear I'm going to, you're lucky I'm f-ing not"

I wish they gave us a better angle on the foot fault. Interestingly on TV, the second Serena went for the serve, I commented that it looked different than all her other ones. Still no replay that shows conclusively what happened just yet.

Go Federer tomorrow!

Wow, didn't expect that out of a Williams. Then she claims she never said it and you can hear the crowd nearby yelling that yes she did. The replay's on TSN.
