Canadian Government sends body bags to Natives for H1N1
http://ca.reuters.com/article/domest...58F69K20090916
Quote:
The Canadian government sent body bags to some remote Indian reserves as it prepared for the winter flu season, sending a jarring message at odds with its promise that it's ready for the H1N1 flu.

Interesting approach to H1N1.

I just read that. Warning, CDC paste incoming:
Quote:
The body bags — which were sent to the remote northern reserves of Wasagamack, St. Theresa Point and Garden Hill — came in a shipment of hand sanitizers and face masks.
Grand Chief David Harper, who represents northern First Nations, says body bags send the wrong message and no one can understand why Ottawa would do such a thing.
"It really makes me wonder if health officials know something we don't," he said. "I have a right to speak for my people. I make a plea to the people of Canada to work with us to ensure the lowest fatalities from this monster virus. Don't send us body bags. Help us organize; send us medicine."

So do they normally have 0 body bags on hand in these communities? Maybe they were just replenishing normal supplies or something.

Better to have 'em and not need 'em than need 'em and not have 'em.

What was the right message? The Harper government has said repeatedly that Canada is prepared and ready to combat H1N1. It is an interesting technique for sure, hope for life but prepare for death.

My face is a bum!
|
People will die from this flu. The sanitary thing to do with dead bodies is bag them. This isn't some "We hate you Natives and we're hiding the good medicine from you until you let us build roads! The secret cure is for white people only!". Ugh.
Apparently the body bag industry is experiencing a huge load right now as people prepare everywhere.

If this turns a lot more serious, they will need body bags to help contain the virus in dead victims. They (Leaders of the Frist Nations community) need to drop the conspiracy theory crap and realize that, most likely yes there will be a small percentage of people die and that body bags are part of a bunch of different equipment (Which it sounds like they were provided with.) that should help combat H1N1's spread and severity.

I thought i read somewhere that natives are more susceptible to this virus than most ethnic groups? (or at least affects them much more severly)

What is it you are trying to say here? is that not the prudent way to go about things? Hope for the best but prepare for the worst? What am I missing?

The part that they left out is that their susceptability to the virus and its severity has nothing to do with genetics!

Sending body bags is "a totally unnecessary thing," said chief public health officer Dr. David Butler-Jones.
|
That is what the chief public health officer for the country of Canada said in regards to the need for body bags, but I guess he should talk to the resident medical experts on CP for a little insight into the need for body bags .
http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/cpho-acsp/index-eng.php
A little info on Mr. Butler-Jones
Quote:
He has worked in many parts of Canada in both Public Health and Clinical Medicine, and has consulted in a number of other countries.
|
Quote:
Dr. Butler-Jones has served with a number of organizations including as: President of the Canadian Public Health Association; Vice President of the American Public Health Association; Chair of the Canadian Roundtable on Health and Climate Change; International Regent on the board of the American College of Preventive Medicine; Member of the Governing Council for the Canadian Population Health Initiative; Chair of the National Coalition on Enhancing Preventive Practices of Health Professionals; and Co-Chair of the Canadian Coalition for Public Health in the 21st Century.
In recognition of his service in the field of public health, York University's Faculty of Health bestowed on Dr. Butler-Jones an honorary Doctor of Laws degree.

What I am trying to get at is that no credible trained medical professional thinks this is a prudent way to go about things and that this is an embarrassment, in my eyes, for the Government of Canada.

So if i understand him correctly...natives dont need body bags.
Do they not die or something?

So it ISNT prudent to hope for the best but prepare for the worst...OK got it.
As for your embarrassment...i feel for you.
No really.
Also are you embarrassed about this part of it as well?
Quote:
Canada, a country of 33.6 million people, has ordered 50.4 million doses of vaccine and plans to begin immunizations in November. If Canada doesn't need all its order, it will leave some vaccines available for other countries, Butler-Jones said.
|
So its pretty clear that the embassing Canadian government has plans to immunize every single citizen should they want it. What a black freakin eye this harper guy is!!
Seriously Eddy...how weak. The reason this Jones fellow is saying body bags aren't going to be necessary is because he doesnt expect a whole lot of deaths from this.
What are you having a problem with?

You should contact him and fill him in on your medical knowledge, I am sure he needs your assistance.
This is just a waste of taxpayer money, there is no need for body bags (at least according to medical experts with degrees).
