depends on the price, delivery etc.
cab I usually tip a couple bucks (ie cab $7.50 or $8, I just hand them a $10) same for haircut, round up to nearest 5 generally.

I'll always tip a delivery guy a decent amount based on speed of delivery. I don't necessarily condone reckless driving, but the more efficiently you can get me my large pep & olives, the larger the tip.
I delivered for Stavros a few years back as a evening beer fund kinda job. Wasn't too bad. The glaring irony was that the nicer the house, the crappier the tip. Honestly, without fail, a crappy house usually resulted in a good tip.
One jerk actually ripped me off for 10 cents. I was very quick getting there, but I was greeted by a fat, wife beater-toting greaseball with a handful of silver. I thanked him graciously (hell, I saw a few quarters in there) & went back to the truck to count it.

they say that poorer regions give more to charities, support local school drives etc than do the richer ones (truth I dunno?)
but selling chocolate bars etc as a kid, it was the shabby house that would always buy, the super nice one would send you on your way.
Same selling them in front of the grocery store, the people who didn't look like they had much money would buy, those who looked like they had money wouldn't even look at you.
Funny story, had a Brinks guy walk in with a safe when I asked him to buy a chocolate bar, he looked at me and said "sorry I don't have any money on me" then there was an awakward scilence, as I gave him what I'm sure was the most bizzare look I've ever given anyone, then he said "well... it's not mine" we laughed and he went on his merry way.

I don't tip cabbies.
1 cabbie, coming home from a bar after my friend got kicks out for being too drunk, told me;
"If he puke in my cab it's $150...you don't have $150 get out of my cab."
The cab ride was $23, I gave him a $20 and we took off. He spouted something about the cops, we shruged it off, $3 is no big deal, especially when you spout insults at someone like he did.

So how would you like someone who barfs in your car when you are trying to make a living. You are lucky the cabbie drove you drunks home and than you ripped him off. You acted like a real jerk and now you are bragging about it?

Cabbie: a buck or two. I was once told Cabbie don't need to rely on their tips like restaurant staff.
$7 ride - ask for a buck back
$8 ride - 10'er
Very drunk, getting action, or just got some: then I tip up $16 ride = $20
Delivery: This is where I am not sure at all. What are the guidelines? 5%, 10%, 15%???
I am usually about $3 on a $25 order.

The delivery boys get to keep the delivery charge too, so I don't tip the regular 15%

Obviously the cabbie is waiting outside a bar to pick people up therefore he should expect drunks to get into his cab. I'm sure his friend would let the cabbie know if he was feely sick therefore he could pull over. I'd be pretty upset if I was told to have 150$ on me to ride a cab might just tell him to pull over a couple houses from my house so I could run inside to get some money.
By the way I was kidding about the last part, well kinda

Isn't that the job of a cab driver to drive people home.
I agree that it isn't right that someone throw up in the car but his friend didn't even do that. The way the cab driver handled it I think I may have preferred if his friend had thrown up and not had the $150.
If me or my friend throws up in a guys cab I/we would do everything we could to rectify the situation. But if the cabbie acted like a jerk like this guy did I would be way less inclined to help.

Sure the job of the cabbie is drive people home, but if you have allowed yourself to get so drunk that you appear ready to barf or p*ss yourself, the cabbie has no obligation to take you. If you barf in his cab, he has to clean it up [lovely job] and then try and dry it out before he can take any passengers. Basicly his night is over and not only did he not make any money but since he is paying a lease on his taxi, he actually loses money. Not all people are as responsible as you, as evident from the other poster, who showed his appreciation by shorting the cabbie by threee bucks. There are rules a cabbie has to follow and there is a price that is set for throwing up in a cab [not sure it is 150 dolllars]. The cabbie was warning his passengers about the cost and I don't blame him. The cabbie has the right to turn down any fare he wants to and considering all of the violence that has been happening against cabbies in recent years, I don't blame them.

I will tell you what my take on this is.
The reason why (I think) the richer people in the world do not donate to the people selling choclate bars or the other people that go door to door, is because many people who are rich donate yearly to organizations. They right the check send it along and don't donate the $5 or $10 each time someone comes to the door. This is just my experience, I am not saying it is the way it is always. If I was to venture a guess and only a guess I would bet that the rich donate more yearly, but percentage of income my tell a different story.
As for delivery, usually $3. As for cabs, usually $5- $7,

I am sure that 99% of cabbies follow the same philosophy as you do and in this case I would be much more inclined to believe the cabbie's side than somebody who has just been thrown out of a bar. I have been an obnoxious drunk myself at times and have been on the other side of dealing with these drunks also. I tell you it was a very frustrating time and required a ton of patience.

Free Delivery: 15%
Delivery charge: round off to next dollar on CC bill
Cabbie: Calgary 10-15% depends how long the ride is, longer ride=more tip, when I'm a tourist in Canada 20%, in US 25%, International: depends on the country and their customs.

Is that the rule. I always get pee'd off when the delivrey charde is not told to me, then the bill is a little bit higher at the door. I always feel bad when I meet the poor guy face to face and give him 4 bucks for a pizza.
Did you know you can ask some drivers to pick you up liquor or smokes on the way. My buddy does this all the time and he usually tips him 15 to 20 bucks for it. [/b][/quote]
I'm not aware of any "rules", that's just the way I do it. Usually they will tell you about the $4 delivery charge or whatever over the phone or it's printed on the flyer when you order.
I don't know about booze or smokes but I don't see why not, it's on his way anyways, I did ask for the newspaper once though (stuck at work and couldn't leave).
