Default Creating new wireless networks

In my house we use Telus for our internet needs, but once in a while my wireless network stops working. Usually what they do is just create a new wireless network and it is fine.

My computer thats plugged into the wall works fine, it's strictly the wireless that has crapped out.

Does anyone know how to make a new wireless network? I'm pretty sure I've been shown how before but I can't remember for the life of me.

Or are there other reasons why it might have stopped working? It still says on my computer that I'm connected to it, but I have no internet service.

Many thanks.

Who is the 'we' that you are talking about that is creating a new wireless network? Telus?

I really am not sure what you mean by a new wireless network, but my guess is that you are hard resetting your router (or wireless gateway that Telus supplies) and are just reentering the settings for your network.

If that is what you are wanting to do then I am sure someone can help you, but in order to get a step by step guide, they will need to know what wireless hardware you have.

However, since you are still connected to your network but not connected to the internet, the problem seems to be located somewhere else rather than with your wireless network, but I am not an expert on Telus by any stretch of the imagination.

Honestly, I know so little about this crap that I'm not even sure exactly what I mean.

My first wireless network was my dogs name, then my second one was my dogs name followed by a 2 etc etc, all the way to 4. What I remember about creating a new wireless network was that it was on the telus website. I remember it being fairly easy, easy enough that I could figure it out.

My router is a 2WIRE 2700HG-E2.

None of this probably helps, but hopefully someone gets what I'm trying to explain. Calling telus and getting helpful information out of them has been a lost cause in the past.

Ok, so it's not the wireless network that is the problem. I have another lap top that connects just fine.

I have a macbook. Does anyone know why my computer all of the sudden won't work on this network? All the software is up to date.

So both laptops connect to the network fine, but only one can access the internet? Can the one that cannot access the internet see anything else on the network? Like shared media files or hard drives?

Have you tried different browsers? Which ones have you tried?

Does your browser come up with a message about proxy servers? If so, follow the directions in the link.

Is there a way on a Mac to see if the hardware is having troubles? Like Windows device manager.

Ya, mine can't access internet, messenger...nothing. But it shows that my AirPort is connected to the wireless internet.

I did try different browsers. I usually use Safari and it doesn't work there, so I tried Firefox and it's the same story.

I don't really know what you mean by accessing shared media files or hard drives. I don't access any hard drives or media files except for the ones that are on my computer.

The message just says that it couldn't open the page because my computer isn't connected to the internet. It doesn't say anything about proxy servers.

Your last question I'm not sure about either. Maybe someone who has a mac and reads this can answer that last one for me?

Under your network settings, (system preferences->network) when you highlight the airport connection does it display what network you are connected too? (this is from a leopard user who hasn't yet upgrade to snow leopard, so things may have changed)

it maybe be as simple as just re-inputting the information for your wireless network into the mac again.

are you getting an IP address on the non-connected mac from the router? (you can find this out if you click on the advanced button while the airport is selected in the left hand pane)

A telus tech just talked me through it. Apparently a new network just had to be created. For some reason my computer wasn't recognizing the network I usually use. It works now though.
