info on SeaDoos
Hi,
Im looking for info on seadoos such as what too look for when buying one. All I know is how much fun it is to ride one.
My in laws have a place by lake windemere and I wanted to pick up a seadoo now that its the end of season.
I know about the possibility of the town of Windemere banning motorized boats (I dont think it will happen).
Does anyone have info on what to look for when buying one?
Thanks

Seadoo's are not vey popular with a lot of lake front owners. They're very noisy and many lakes would like to see them banned altogether if it could be done.

Unlike Debby downer....
We have a wakeboarding model (also on Windermere) which is great, you can pull a skiier, or a tube or whatever.

What I know is that if you have a boat they are fun when it's too windy for boating activities.
If you don't have a boat already then I would put that money towards buying a boat that you can go on with more than 1 other person.
I also have a place on Lake Windermere and do not agree with the above poster that they are a nuiscence.
The older stand up style ones were really loud but the new one aren't really any louder than alot of the boats on the lake.

I don't think they are anywhere near as good as a boat for wakeboarding/skiing because they're so light that the person being pulled can actually pull the seadoo.

Maybe 10 years ago they were noisy. We have two out in Invermere and they aren't any louder than our boat.

I agree that they have become a lot quiter than the older ones. My brother has a newer one and they are a blast to ride.

Probably the usual stuff like as few hours on it as possible, get a mechanical inspection, doesn't look beat up, owner has followed scheduled maintenance, etc. I don't know of anything specific to look for but I'd just treat it like buying any motorized vehicle.
Have heard this mind you...the second happiest day in your life is when you buy you're boat. The first happiest is when you sell it. Apparently watercraft are a pita to own lol.

If you are looking for one to use for watersports, be sure to get a three seater since you need to have room for the driver, the spotter and the person getting pulled behind.

Yes they are but once they fall or when u leave the dock to go start in open water it is handy to have the ability to have them on it as well with the third seat.

In Ontario anyways, I believe it is the law that you need a seat for the person getting pulled in case they are unable to continue. I've seen cases of people getting pulled, wiping out and not being able to continue skiing/tubing.

Get the XRT 255-iS from Sea Doo. Incredible machine, the most fun thing i've ever driven.
255 horsepower on the water in a 900 pound machine is just ######ed, it goes 0-50 mph in under 3 seconds. They handle beautifully, and they've got great suspension.
Family friends have a few of them and lakefront on the Okanagan just south of kelowna. They're not noisy at all (unless you're on them), and they're way faster than anything else on the water.

I'm pretty sure that is law everywhere.
Edit: Speaking of which, you're going to need your Pleasurecraft Operators License.

This is the boat my grandpa's neighbour has at Shuswap. 2400hp and was clocked at 173mph.
Kinda scary that it's legal to rip around in that.
