Now I went into this movie thinking it was going to be awesome, but aside from the first chapter, which was absolutely amazing, i thought it was garbage. It was paced horrendously slow, it had to many recycled bits from past Tarantino movies (Mexican Standoff from Reservoir Dogs), and they could have just made the whole movie with Pitt and the main nazi character as no one else really served any purpose. I'm actually really frustrated that i just wasted $12.50 and two and a half hours on this.

This movie will not be what you expect at all. If you are looking for an action packed war movie, aka Kill Bill with guns, you will be massively disapointed.
The dialogue in this movie is amazing, better even the Jackie Brown. It has some of the greatest humorous one liners ever.
However...... In typical Tarintino style, some parts do drag on a lot. He attempts to use (Successfully) dialogue to create suspense,
This movie could be used as the thesis in how to write a screenplay.
Personally I like it, however, many will find it drab and self serving! If Tarantino the director wasn't so in love with Tarintino the writer, the film would be 30 minutes shorter, and probably much better edited.
Perhaps the most telling fact is that half the people will love it, half will hate it, and in the end Tarintino could give one SH@t!!!
The last line of the movie sums it up perfectly

You don't need to censor the title when it's "Basterds"

I just read a couple of one/two star reviews on imdb.com and seems like a movie i would hate. Endless talking by characters you don't care about just for the sake of endless talking. Yeah it was allright in Reserivoir Dogs but it doesn't mean Tarantino can pull it off again and again. I think i'll pass.

I watched this version of The Inglorious Basterds instead because I am cheap. Quite comedic.

It's a love or hate thing. Not much middle ground here. As a huge Tarantino fan(he hasn't done anything that I haven't liked), I loved this movie. He is the master of dialogue and he shows off his skills in this film.
8/10
Christoph Waltz deserves some supporting actor consideration. He was fantastic. Creepy, funny, mean, comforting....everything. Brad Pitt was really good too, but could have used more screen time. But I guess that was by design, to keep you wanting more.
Good on you Quentin.

You basterd! You correctly spelled Inglorious.

Tracking at 86% on Rotten Tomatoes which is very good considering there's a lot of love / hate critics for QT's movies every time out.

I loved it. For a movie over two and a half hours I thought it flew by.
I heard an interview with Tarantino where he mentioned that each chapter of the film (it's split in to five chapters) is meant to have a different cinematic tone / feel.
I particularly liked the opening one, and the bar room stand off that was reminiscent of Reservoir Dogs. Both were edge-of-your-seat thrilling with sharp dialog.
Another thing he mentioned in interviews that is quite interesting is that he was very close to shelving the project a few years back because he couldn't cast the role of SS officer Colonel Hans Landa. He said they tried for months to find the right actor, and Tarantino felt the portrayal of that role was so crucial to the film he considered shelving the film. Just as he was about to give up Christoph Waltz came in to read and he cast him on the spot.
When you're watching the film pay close attention to the Landa character and the job Waltz does. I agree he deserves an Oscar nod. It's brilliant. Apparently his Italian is just as flawless as his German (another thing Tarantino said he was looking for in the role).
I am going to check it out a second time.

I've only just now realized the spelling Tarantino used in the title. That makes it even more awesome, imo.

I hate QT movies but the ole lady loves them. I haven't seen it yet since it was sold out last night. But any movie that has nazi's getting killed is a plus in my book

Looks like a little too much gratuitous violence for my liking but somehow QT seems to pull it altogether and I'll end up liking it a lot. I like QT movies and I like his plot lines and I like his music choices and I generally dont' like many movies so I only watch a few.

A few scenes are particularly brutal, but over all the violence isn't as constant as it was in Kill Bill for example.

I liked this movie a fair bit. It's definitely a unique war movie.
++The French chick with the Cinema was hot.
+The German actress was hot.
+The dude who played the SS general guy was brilliant.
+I liked the use of language in the movie.
-Didn't much care for any of the "basterds", and BJ Novak seemed *way* out of place.
-Seemed really drawn out in places.
Some of the scenes were really long and whatnot, but at least it was watchable from near the front of the theatre due to all the long steady camera shots.

Speaking of Austin Powers, was that actually Mike Myers in the scene with Churchill? If so, it blows my mind.
Edit: Wow, it was! I knew he seemed a bit campy!
