Torn Hamstring - Help
So I tore my Hamstring about a month ago, I did the whole, ice/heat and rest song and dance, and I started running this week to get back into shape for indoor soccer.
All pain was gone, I stretched it, the whole works, and everything seemed great.
So, second practice today and it feels like I pulled it again, not nearly as bad as the original injury but bad enough that I couldnt continue.
This is my first time with this particular injury, any advice from people out there in regards to how to deal with it? Advice as to what to do? Better stretches? Treatment? Timelines? Experience? Anything?
And please, spare me the "go to a Doctor not a hockey message board" schtick, I realize that its the only thing some of you have, but I went to a doctor for the original tear, and the helpless shrug and: "rest, alternate ice/heat and compression" was about as useless as it sounds. I knew that already.

Go see a physiotherapist. He/she will do more for you than some doctor.

I pulled my hamstring playing soccer a few times and I was told to sit in a sauna everyday for a week for around 30 minutes every time and it really helped.

Dude, if it was a torn hamstring there's no way that you should be even trying to run on it a month later.
If it was healed, it was partially healed which means that you rushed back and aggravated it.
Honestly, coming from someone who's suffered through a hamstring tear and rushed it back and still have problems with it 10 years later, go see a physiotherapist, at the very worst they can give you some warmup and stretching exercises.
To be honest, I've added slow running on alternative days to my exercise plan using a treadmill (I build muscle quickly, but my cardio work was crap), and I work on stretching and then warming up heavily because I injure it really easily.

I pulled my hamstring playing softball and it took quite a long time. I had to go to physio to help rehab it, and even that took a long time - and when I finally came back, I couldn't really run - basically killed my softball season. Fortunaly I could skate, but that was even really tough.

One of the girls on my son's track team tore hers last May, she went down during the 400 m, it was pretty bad. She was out all summer, just got back to starting cross country this week, but has to take it easy, still having some issues. Those take a really long time to heal, I don't think a month is long enough recovery time.

Did you see a doctor? Dude...a torn hammy may even require surgery. Depends how many heads you tore and if you actually "tore" them by separating them from the ligament or the muscles themselves split.
Ouch.

This, or if you do go to a doctor go to a sports doctor. My rugby trainer gave me the name of a few when I did my MCL this year. PM if you are interested. Physio for sure though.

8-12 weeks...if it was actually torn, and sometimes longer.
In severe cases, surgery is required.
Quote:
For minor muscle pulls, you may need two to four weeks to safely get back to your activities. For more severe muscle tears, you may need rehabilitation for two to three months, with complete healing occurring by four to six months.

My wife, a Chiro recommends that you go to a small, independent physio for assessment and treatment. She also works with several good physios at Mount Royal University's Optimal Therapies. (with the added benefit of being on campus while school is in)
I have also torn various things. I highly recommend Arnica Gel. It is available from some drug stores. I would only buy the Jamieson brand. Apparently Traumeel is another brand that may be easier to find. Apply it immediately after injury and as often as you can during the day. It aids in muscle repair. Everyone I have recommended it too has raved about it. All of my softball and hockey buddies have a bottle in their bag. My wife actually uses it in her practice as well. It is awesome.

Or you could kill a hobo, steal his hammy and staple gun it onto yours!! Win, Win.
Your choice.

Ya, I partially tore my achilles awhile ago. The doctor told me that I'm going to get very frustrated by how long I'm going to have to wait to even start recovering. And when I feel like I'm better (months later) I need to start back really slow.
You're better off shutting down for quite awhile and hitting up a physiotherapist for treatment.
