De-cluttering
So, my wife and I are entertaining the idea of moving, but we need to de-clutter our house for showings.
Any suggestions on what we should use for storage? I was thinking of trying to find some cheap Rubbermaid containers, and storing them under the stairs.
What about renting storage units. My wife keeps bringing this up, but I don't think it's a great option.
We'll be throwing a lot out as well, including donations, and recycling. We had a yard sale last weekend that got rid of a bunch of crap, but there's more to get rid of.
Any tips and tricks would be appreciated.

Throw out stuff you don't want anymore, then have a POD delivered to your driveway - fill it up, have it hauled away, show your house, then have it delivered back to your driveway.

No- because an empty space under the steps (or with one bin) says "lots of storage." 7 bins there says "only 7 bins of storage in the whole house- is that enough for you?"
Get a storage unit, or as suggested a POD.

How much crap can you have? Throw it out, give it away, recycle it. I wound up moving 3 times within 2 years, and, wow - you realize how much useless garbage you have. If you haven't worn it/used it in 12 months ---> garbage. Now, I love my life because there isn't useless crap "stored" in the house.

Any suggestions for "PODs"? I never heard of these before. Prices?

$300+ to house my stuff somewhere else for a month or so? Call me cheap, but that's slightly pricey IMO.
I guess I'll be throwing a lot of stuff out.

Just to put that into perspective, a decent sized storage unit will run you $100-150. Add in gas, PITA factor, pizza and beer for friends to help you.... $300 isn't that bad. And if it helps you sell your house faster or gets you a better offer; then it's good.
I am pretty bad for being a packrat myself, but it still amazes me when people don't declutter and/or move their crap somewhere else while selling. Just watch "Buy Me" or "The Unsellables" on HGTV for some ideas- you will just need to resist the urge to want to punch the host of Unsellables in the (edit- maybe I shouldn't be so graphic there.)
