Default Podcasts on Flash Drives

I'm new to all this stuff so pardon my ignorance. I just got a new headunit for the car where I can connect an Ipod or USB flash drive to. Since I don't have an Ipod I want to download stuff onto a flash drive. If I install iTunes as a way to search for podcasts and download them into iTunes so that they're organized is there a way to put them from there onto my flash drive? Or is iTunes only for iPods as the name would imply?

Itunes would be a fine way to search and manage podcast subscriptions. The podcasts will download into the iTunes music folder, in a subfolder called, suprisingly, podcasts. From there, just copy them over to the flash drive.

The only thing you aren't going to get without an iPod, is the synchronization of played/unplayed status back and forth that would automatically remove podcasts you've listened to when you sync up.

Thanks Scott,

So I've downloaded a few through iTunes and they are in the podcasts folder. Do I just right click - copy - paste where I want them to go. Or is there another way to move them?

It's been a few weeks now and I've been enjoying listening to podcasts on the drive to work.

One issue I'm having though is that some of them I want to listen to are in m4a format but my stereo won't play those. I did something in iTunes to change the preferred format to mp3 and once I download the m4a file I right click and select convert to mp3. Then it says it's converting and I wait and once it's done I can't find the mp3 file. If I copy the one from my podcasts folder in iTunes to my flash drive it's still an m4a file.

Also, I downloaded some concert files from the cbc website and they are in some sort of wma/video playlist file. Can I convert these to mp3?

If you go to properties > burning and change the format to mp3 cd. Now you can right click on a podcast in your library and convert to mp3.

And for OP, if you don't want to mess with the library folders, you can just click and drag right from the iTunes listing to the USB drive.

But when I try to convert it it does something and makes a happy type noise when it's done but then I can't find the mp3 version and the one in my podcast library is still a m4a.

Just do a file search on your computer for the name of the song you converted. It will tell you where you're saving the files.
