Default WEEK 9: STAMPS at ARGOS

Quite dissapointing ending on Week 7 against the Eskimos. THe Stamps did not play last week and their record after the bye week is 2-0-1.

Stampeders beat the Argonauts on their only 1 game (July 17) this season with 44-9 and it was a one sided game. Kerry Joseph were running around like his head cut off. This game, we might not see Kerry Joseph because last game he was benched in favour of backup QB Cody Pickett. Pickett by the way had 2 starts in 2008 and both of them are against the Calgary Stampeders.

I figured this game would be a piece of cake for Calgary but you never know the CFL is going this season so far. Full of surprises.

Quarterback: Henry Burris passed Doug Flutie for Stampeders All Time Passing Yards with 20, 972 yards. He had a good game against the Eskimos but they still came up losing the game.

--- I think last game is the beginning of Burris resurrections. I think Burris realized that he doesn't have to go long ball all the time and use the veteran players like Copeland and Lewis a lot.

STARTER: Burris BACKUP: Nealy and Tate.

Running Back: Joffrey Reynolds is very consistent this season so far. Whenever he gets the ball he makes something happen and the offense move.

STARTER: Reynolds, Johnson BACKUP: Cornish and Cote

Offensive Linemen: The OLine did a good job against the Eskimos. O'Neill played well in place of Rob Lazeo.

STARTER: Pilon, Newman, Lazeo(inj), O'Neill Tsoumpas and Archibald.
BACKUP: Gott, Ellis

Receiver: Awesome game between the two veterans Copeland and Lewis. They had a combined 18 receptions and 314 yards. Copeland were named Offensive Player of the week due to his 2 TDs(that boasted his league leading TD receptions with 6), 182 yards receptions.
Finally they are using Teyo Johnson as a tight end/slotback. I don't know why a talented receiving like him were not being added to the program before. Thelwell and Ralph are becoming the next option for Burris instead of Jackson and Ryan. Burris still go to Ryan and Jackson when needed.

STARTER: Lewis, Copeland, Ralph, Ryan
BACKUP: Jackson, Johnson.

Defensive Linemen: Brutal against the run. Their best DLinemen (Labinjo) is injured and might not play against Toronto. Calgary signed 2 DLinemen(DeVone Claybrooks and Jim Davies) but there is a possibility that only Claybrooks will be playing.

STARTER: Phillips, Claybrooks, Willis, Johnson
BACKUP: Robede, Fernand Kashama, Chevrier, Malik Jackson, Juwan Simpson

Linebacking: Linebackers were terrible against the Eskimos' run and against the previous opponents. Something needs to change even if Blackmon is not injured. Calgary signed a 6'4" LB Tim Johnson to replace the injured MLB Trey Blackmon. Both James and Carpenter are very consistent but they both need help from the MLB.

STARTER: James, Carpenter and Johnson
BACKUP: Black, Calixte, Grootegood, Raymond

Defensive Back: DBs got burned in the last few seconds against the Eskimos. We cannot blame them solely for the lost because the Special Team also were guilty of Eskimos coming back to win the game. Not sure how to read this but I thought it was Amadi and safety Collins who got beat by Fred Stamps and I thought Davanzo Tate is improving. I guess the coaching staff saw it differently because it is a possibility that Davanzo Tate will be replaced by DB John Eubanks.

STARTER: Browner, Amadi, Eubanks, Anderson, Collins
BACKUP: Lysack, Raymond

Special Team: Bad, bad special team coverage at the end. At the beginning of the season, special team is the best group for the Stampeders but now they are the worst or even 2nd worst. Some people were questioning on why the kick after the Stamps scored a TD is a short one. I don't think it is a bad decision on Stamps ST's decision. They were trying to kick the ball away from Tristan Jackson but for some reason a determined Jackson got the ball and run for good yardage. Tackling were not existence except for Dwayne Carpenter. That last boo-boo cost the Stamps the game. A few plays later, Eskimos scored a TD with a few seconds left in the game. It's just unfortunate and the big bounce went on Edmonton's way.

GO STAMPS GO!!
More update before game day/time.

Stamps sleeping through this game so far. Burris needs to make a play.

Or *GASP* hand it off to Reynolds.

The run game has looked alright but the passing game looks awful again. The defence looks much better but it is the Argos.

Horrible first half on offense. Henry is such a slow starter and that week off killed his momentum. It doesn't help that the offensive play calling has been poor as well. Stamps still trying to go downfield against the zone defense. Too many 2nd and 5's or less where the Stamps haven't taken what the defense is giving them. Cortez has had a subpar season calling plays.

As well hate that decision to punt on 3rd & 1 in Argo territory. When you don't play to win you usually lose.

Why are the Stamps the only team in the CFL that doesn't utilize crossing routes and dump-offs to the RB consistently?

I agree. Its frustrating to watch Henry throwing downfield to covered receivers. He really needs more of that Ricky Ray take what the defense give you mentality. I place half the blame on Cortez as well as the playcalling has been brutal at times this year.

This is definitely looking like an off year for the team but they should be able to make the crossover at the very least.

Huge turnover by the defence to start the 2nd half.

3 plays and all 3 with 15+ yard routes as the primary target.

Try dumping the ball off for once Cortez.

Nice to see they haven't made 2nd half adjustments.

You get the feeling the first team to score a TD wins.

What is the record for punts combined in a single game? We might be close to record status here.
