I didn't expect a guy who played 80 NHL games and put up better numbers than Eric Nystrom to have his rating axed by 3 points. Oh well, a 3rd round pick has a 20% chance of being an NHL player, and a 4th is about 15. Thorburn is good potential call up type depth for me.

Why didn't you appeal his rating?

Well for every guy I wanted uprated I needed to have another guy down rated. I could have appealed ratings for Hemsky and Gonchar too compared to last years ratings and the NHL seasons they had, but didn't have enough guys who got over rated to offer up as sacrifices for all my guys who had their ratings axed.

Both those guys are still basically rated as front line players....unless I'm wrong Gonchar dropped from 82 to 80 (70) and Hemsky from 79 to 68 (78) so they weren't really axed. I think its also important to remember this sim doesn't total the ratings up the same way - so comparing ratings from the old sim across to the new sim isn't really the best way of approaching it. Since we used a new sim our approach was less about what the old ratings for players were and more what they should be.

Hemsky is a adequate front line player and his rating reflects that.
Gonchar is a blueliner with some nice skills but some holes in his game - his rating reflects that.

Thorburn might be a little low specically compared to a guy like Nystrom but its hard for us to catch everything which is why we gave opportunities to appeal.

Yeah that's the toughest part about the new SIM ratings is trying to catch everything. In general I think a fair number of low 70's guys ended up dropping in ratings a fair bit. It seemed pretty consistent across the board too though so it was fair in that regard.

I only brought it up because the other guy laughed at me for trading for him. At the end of the day I shouldn't have traded for a player like this. Thats my fault.

Than again...I have never drafted a future NHL player with a 3rd or 4th round pick so for me to trade those and now have a completely useless asset is no different than if I kept those picks. I would have needed some serious luck to get anything out of them and I used up a life time supply of luck on my last playoff run.
