I haven't watched wrestling since I was 17-18 but this is a guy who was in wrestling when I did watch. Sorry to hear the news and RIP.

At first all I saw from the thread title was "Former WWE wrestler Test..." and I thought it was going to be about steroids and thought to myself what a shocker. Tests biggest run was when he had the whole angle with marrying Stephanie McMahon before being booted for HHH.

What a life these guys lead. I think you have to give a guy like the Rock credit for getting out while he still could. Admittedly it's hard to feel sorry for them. I'll wait for an autopsy report, but we all know what happened.

Part of some of the worst angles of his time, he was the prototypical WWE wrestler big muscle bound but lacking personality.
I believe that he was one of the first victims of the WWE's new wellness policy.
Its terrible to see people dying that young.

you may still be correct. if not a side effect of steroids, then OD on painkillers. might as well say what most everyone else is thinking

I think he recently left the wrestling world to go back to school or something like that.
And yeah, I was thinking drug overdose of some kind myself.

Wow. RIP, I used to watch WWE/F religiously for about 6 years and it sucks that he's gone. He really wasn't my favourite, but it's just shocking to see someone so young die like that.

Is it really shocking anymore? It seems now every few months we hear about one of these guys going belly up. I stopped watching it after the Owen Hart tragedy myself. It would be intersting to see the actual mortality rate of proffesional wrestlers, I bet it would rank as one of the most dangerous proffesions in the world. Imagine if any other "sport" had a young mortality rate as high as these guys, US congress would be involved. But because it is percieved as a bit of a freak show / fringe culture thing I think it just enables the promotions to stay more or less out of the limelight.

How long is it really until UFC/MMA starts to get the same kind of negative exposure?

I don't know about that my friend, yes Steroid abuse in pro wrestling was pretty bad and probably will continue to be fairly bad. However Steroids came to football and baseball a little later and I'm betting that the long term steroid related deaths especially in baseball with make wrestling look like nothing.
Give it 5 to 10 years when the members of the current abuser generation start hitting the ages when these symptoms really come to life.

something has to be done to regulate the Wrestling industry. Bret Hart has been vocal about this for years. How many deaths will it take for the Wrestling industry to realize they have to take care of their talent?

It's not the just the steroids for wrestlers. It's the painkillers that they need to use year round to perform. And those that are out while injured always have to worry about being fired like what happened to Test at one point.
I don't think steroids came later to football players. Look at Lyle Alzado. And most wrestlers were football players to begin with.

It won't. Those guys' bodies don't take the same abuse as pro wrestlers and they are pretty strictly drug tested. And Dana White isn't obsessed with juiced up muscle freaks.

mma guys do not fight 3 nights of the week. they also do not have crazy high-flying and high risk moves. it may be staged, but the injuries the wrestlers get are real.
Also, Test was at one time linked to Stacy Kiebler.
