Default Wild deal for Arnott

The Wild have struck a deal with NJ that has Jason Arnott coming to Minny. Heading back the other way is Mats Sundin, and Nikolai Kulemin. In addition if Sundin retires this season the Devils will get a 2010 1st.

GM Farhall:
"Jason is a consistent top 6 pivot that gives us a huge upgrade - we are happy to have him back".

YIKES!

And you say I win a lot of deals Grant.......this one is lopsided IMO. Sundin was on waivers in July. Great deal for Minnesota.

Steve and I started looking at this deal back when Arnott was a pending UFA - and either he gets Sundin + Kulemin or Kulemin+1st. Not a horrible deal for him. It gives him a guy that will be a top 6 forward in the NHL.

I like the deal for myself obviously but for a 34 year old just signed to a grid deal I would not have given up more than I did. An elite prospect simply was not an option.

I dont see how this is so one-sided Kulemin is a solid prospect and Sundin is a decent 2nd line centre. The condition gives NJ a 1st round pick which could also turn into a good prospect.

I understand these prospects might not have a CPHL rating yet but they can turn out to be studs.

Exactly but to add - Kulemin isn't even a prospect - he's a young established NHLer with a usable rating. That's what makes this deal work - I'm giving up a guy that has shown he can score at the NHL level. That's a valuable asset.

True but I consider all leafs players prospects because they rushed a ton of them last year. Last years numbers are inflated because they basically played all their prospects.

Well when the deepest prospect pool team in the CPHL won't trade a top prospect to get Jason Arnott.....That should tell you what Sundin is worth.

Sorry Steve, but dealing with the Wild has been pretty rough for you in the past and I think it just got rougher.

Yep, I know. I know that this deal doesn't look good for me at all and I'm happy that even one person thinks it's even OK. I don't have much to say about it - I've wanted Kulemin back for some time and now I've got him.

Personally I believe Sundin will announce his retirement before the NHL season starts...

It's nice to see the rise of Jason Arnott again, he was a player that was thrown to the ditch in the CPHL rating wise a couple years ago... I don't know what changed but something changed and he started to get a lot more respect that he deserved when it comes to ratings...

good to see
