Default Commute from Tuscany

My wife really wants to live in Tuscany. It's not a problem for her because she has parking at work. I can get a lift in with her in the morning to downtown, but since she works for the government and I don't, she gets to leave at 4:30 every day, and I could be there to 7-8 some nights.

What's the public transportation like there to downtown and back? Is it a nightmare or relatively good? I'm assuming I could take the train to Crowfoot and get a feeder bus from there into Tuscany. Is this going to be a very long commute for me should I move?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think there are plans to extend the LRT to Tuscany?

http://www.lightrailnow.org/news/n_cal_2008-01a.htm

According to Steve Perry's LRT in Calgary website, "New Provincial funding for Municipal infrastructure was agreed to in September through the Municipal Sustainability Initative." Following Calgary's October 15th municipal elections, the new Council approved an array of new LRT projects on 6 November 2007:
• Northwest LRT Extension from Crowfoot-Centennial Station to Tuscany-Rocky Ridge (C$92 million – US$91 million) and procurement of 7 new LRT railcars (C$28 million – US$28 million).

http://calgary.wikia.com/wiki/C-Train

Five stations on this line opened on September 7, 1987. From the most central to the most northwesternly, they are Sunnyside, SAIT/ACA&D/Jubilee (the station name in full is "Southern Alberta Institute of Technology/Alberta College of Art and Design/Jubilee Auditorium"), Lions Park, Banff Trail, and University. On August 31, 1990, Brentwood station was opened as a new terminus, and on December 15, 2003, Dalhousie Station was opened. An eighth station - Crowfoot - is planned to open in 2008, as well as a ninth station - Tuscany-Rocky Ridge - beyond 2023. An intermediate station near Northland Drive is possible in the future as well (between Brentwood and Dalhousie).

Yeah, there is. But that's a few years down the road I think.

They are currently extending the train to Tuscany - I'd estimate a 2011 opening, check the Transit site for concrete details.

It should be a short feeder bus ride to the Crowfoot station. Trains leave Crowfoot every 5 minutes or less in the morning. Probably expect a 40-45 minute door to door commute, depending on how far your office is from a platform downtown.

I live in Royal Oak (other side of Crowchild from Tuscany) and I take the train from Crowfoot.
I'm not sure what the shuttle bus in Tuscany is like, but I'm in a bit of a bad spot at the beginning of the route so the shuttle sucks for me so I just drive to Crowfoot and pay the $3 to park.

If you have a second car that you can use to get to Crowfoot, the commute will be easy as cheese. It'll be about 7 minutes to get to Crowfoot and then about 30 minutes from there to downtown.

In May 2009 City Council approved a budget update to reflect the current economy, and changes to Provincial funding. The overall project budget has been increased to $115 million based on the preliminary design estimate.

Although funding has increased the timing of distribution has changed. As a result, this project is currently scheduled for completion in 2014 based on the projected funding availability in the coming years.

My mom lives in Tuscany and my brother and dad both commuted to downtown from here..there's an express bus that took them directly to downtown with no other stops and I know there's a plan of extending the train to here, but not sure when. It didnt seem bad for them at all....

Is that express bus still operating? I thought it was removed when the LRT was extended to Crowfoot.

As far as I know you have to take the LRT to Crowfoot and take this bus:

or this one:

There was a public Open City held by the City last year on this.
The opening of the Tuscany/RockyRidge Station will open in 2011.

The better solution is to take the Train to Crowfoot and have her pick you up there!
