Default Caaps get a backup

The Caps have sent Dman Nick Boynton, AHLer Dane Byers, and a 3rd to the Hurricanes for Johan Hedberg and Steve Montador.

Overpayment...maybe... but getting a backup eases alot of the offseason pressure.

Caps do get two guys who can play for their CPHL team this year out of the move. Boynton is a tough guy to judge. in 07/08 the Coyotes waived him and Florida at one point in time I think had him as a healthy scratch. But overall his numbers from last year didn't look too bad and he did get an NHL job. Than again Buffalo did give Montador more money and more years so he's more than just a throw in with Hedberg.

At the end of the day you fill a need and downgrade a bit on defence for a guy who's not on a terrible contract for the next two years.

The deal pretty much a two separate deals for the Hurricanes and was two separate in the trade talks as well

Hedberg for Boynton
then
Montador for Byers and a 3rd

Hesla really needed a defenceman afterwards and Montador had zero future with the Hurricanes after spending the full year in the AHL for me. I need to start dumping D as I got a stockpile now at that range. In the end I think the second part of the deal really works out well for Hesla being that he's still a 60ov player and will fill into Boynton spot for him

but for me it was Hedberg <-> Boynton, and the rest was for someone not in my plans for a 3rd
