Default So I just recieved an email from myself...

Just checked my email, and an email was picked up as spam. I did a double take, as apparently it was sent from my own email address to myself. What does this mean? Has someone gotten hold of my address and is using it to send spam? Have I opened something I shouldn't have, and now have a virus or whatever you call it when someone uses your address? I never open things from people I don't know, and I use Kaspersky to filter my email, so usually everything just ends up in either the spam folder or gets deleted completely, so can't see how that would have happened.

So the question now is what do I do about it, and can I stop this from happening again?

Really have no clue where to go from here, but am about to google and see what comes up.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

*edit* apparently it's just spamming, but nothing I can do about it. Freaked me out for a second, but generally harmless albeit annoying. And a real piss off that my email can be used like this

It's called e-mail spoofing, and it's extremely common. Somehow, some spammer got hold of your email address (way easier than you think) and it using it to send spam. It happens thousands (millions?) of times a day and there is nothing you can really do about it.

Now if everyone in your contact list gets an email from you that you didn't send, then you have something to be worried about.

This isn't really any help at all. But just wanted to say that this exact thing happened to me a while back. It was just one email and never any others. Found it really strange. Nothing came of it though.

yea, that was my first thought. Also worried about my bandwidth going through the roof if it was coming from my actual address, but apparently it shouldn't be

One of my gmail addresses geets this as well, but it all gets filtered through my spam catcher email so I never even see it.

It was just you, 15 days in the future telling you how much you'll love your new Jetta.

actually I was trying to tell myself where to buy cheap viagra. So if it was me from the future then I don't know whether to be stoked that I'm going to get laid, or bummed because I won't be able to get it up.
