Kegerator
Anybody own one? Couple questions:
1. How long will the beer actually last? Based on things I've read it lasts between a month and three months.
2. Are they difficult to make?
3. Is there a significant difference in quality between one that can be purchased vs. one that is built at home.
4. Are they difficult to maintain?
Any help is greatly appreciated as you help this guy make his (okay his friend's) house a pad.

The beer tends to last about 6 weeks, past that, you're pushing it.
They're easy to make provided you have a fridge and drill.
I would imagine the quality of a purchased one would be much higher than that of a home made one, but whether thats significant or not, I dont know.

yea, i know...
my point is that 6 weeks should be plenty of time for a full keg for any beer drinker worth their hops

Heh, a buddy of mine and I used to do the team pitchers at BP's. 4 litres. Two of them for the two of us by the end of the night. And then we'd finish with some shots.
I guess that would be similar to the 5 litre mini keg.
You can walk home in 30 below with a smile on your face and a whistle on your lips with that much beer in ya!
Back on topic, what's a kegerator?

And so I added to the conversation and bumped the topic for him and those interested.

My dad made a friggin SWEET one a few years ago.
He used to make his own beer, and when it was done he would put it into those old stainless steel pop cannisters http://www.homebrewmart.com/homebrew...-ball-lock.htm that fit easily into a fridge. He also ran CO2 lines through the side of the fridge so no hand pumps were needed. Mount a tap on the front and voila! Home brew that is ice cold all day.
He stopped doing it because his friends would come over all the time to chat and drink his beer (he lived on a farm), and he packed on 25lbs within a few months.

...you can buy the things at Home Depot in the US (according to their website - the Canadian Home Depot site doesn't have them).
Also, in Calgary, I know a friend who got one as a gift; he said he had to go pick it up at a Danby distributor in town, so if you find a Danby distributor, there's a good chance you can order one through them.

Ya i have done a bit of reading ect. and Danby sounds like a good "starter" brand. Which is perfect for me
i have also considered a conversion kit but a little danby sounds a little more portable
Kegerator on the porch while enjoy the nice weather outside? sounds fantastic

As luck would have it, I HAVE all this equipment, except for the taps, from when I used to make beer. I think a buddy and me are going to have a go at making this.
Oddly enough, I even have the same fridge, unplugged, in my basement.

Ya it looks like www.kegerator.com has a lot of different options (i think the shipping was a little high on it though)
but im still looking around. The conversion kit above would also work since its a smaller fridge for what i wanted to do. I was hoping to find a place where you can simply buy them in calgary

Just wondering if you had any luck finding one around. Buzzards hobby this winter is going to be beer, and a kegerator would fit into the plans quite nicely.
