I will ask a Geordie related question though.
How is Liverpool old boy Michael Owen working out? Are his injury problems behind him now? I noticed that he scored the winner on the weekend which was nice to see.
I actually quite like Newcastle, always have. Their fans have always been good to get along with when I've run into them at matches. No problems with that at all.

Magpie skipper Owen confident injuries are behind him:

I agree, and as a long-time scouser, how can I help but respect Owen?
I'll be streaming their Carling Cup match against Coventry in my office.

I was at that game against Bolton, what a fantastic 2nd half. The atmosphere was amazing and it was awesome to see Owen head in the winning tally.
Go Newcastle!!!

This is an unbelievable beatdown. Its 2-0 right now but it could, and should, be a lot higher.
They are owning this game, its going to end 4 or 5-0.
NM, sloppy defending by Newcastle, 2-1 before half.

Whoa, not sure how I missed this thread!
Bit of a scare today, hell of a 2nd goal for Coventry. Thankfully Owen did what he does best. All the guy does is score goals and thank god for that.

That was a hell of a game. Coventry's second goal at in the dting seconds of the second half with that incredible throw-in was a thing of beauty.
Owen looks like he is going to be a huge difference maker for them this season.
Almost makes me wish Liverpool had brought him back.

What is the Carling Cup? How many bleeding trophies do they compete for over there?

It's the old Football League Cup that is competed for by the League clubs only i.e. The 92 professional teams in England (and some in Wales). The F.A. Cup has something like 700+ entries with the amount of non league entries that cup gets.
The League Cup became the Milk Cup, then the Littlewoods Cup, Rumbelows Cup, Coca-Cola Cup, Worthington Cup, and since 2003-04 the Carling Cup. It's been sponsored like this since the early 80's.
Most major clubs don't really take this competition too seriously especially early on. The likes of the big 4 usually play a reserve team in the early rounds. With that said I still fondly remember Liverpool winning four on the run in the early 80's and beating Man Utd in the final in 2003.

There was an FA Cup Final replay on today with Liverpool vs. Arsenal. Liverpool goes down 1-0 and in 5 minutes at the end of the match Owen scores 2 to win it.
Wonderful stuff. Makes me miss Owen, but he just cant compete with the likes of Torres these days.

Newcastle is a 4.00 to tie and 6.00 to win at Arsenal on Pro-Line this week. The tie looks like a good bet to me - they already tied Man U on the road this season.

Nothing like the Newcastle defence to get the Gunners offence rolling .

Arse-e-nal 3-0 Newcastle
Van Persie slots in a penalty for Arsenal's opener
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie scored a brace as his side found some of their irresistible form to beat Newcastle.

That was a painful ass-kicking to watch. I was hoping Newcastle would have put up more of a fight.
The didnt look ready, they looked lost and got caught chasing.
The penalty was unfortunate, but the other 2 goals were well deserved.

Well, the soap opera that is SJP continued to amaze today...apparently Keegan has left. I can't believe it. What an embarrassment. Who in their right mind is going to take over? Whoever comes in will be our 5th manager since 2006. Ridiculous.
