Well, I just ordered a new LCD TV in preparation for hockey, but in the meantime I have to deal with my CRT.
So I was watching TV when I reached over to increase the volume (yeah, it's within arm's reach), but accidentally pressed the channel button. That's fine right? No - because all of a sudden I lost all picture and audio....completely black screen.
My green tube must have blown about six months ago because ever since that time there's been a slight pink hue to everything.
Anyways, the entire color can't be gone now because I can still bring up and see the menu as well as the volume bar. However, there is no audio whatsoever and my attempts to change channels (I don't even know what channel it's on) are met in vain.
I have no idea if anyone has a solution. If anything this is more of a useless rant.
Sigh....

Maybe you TV knew you were going to replace it so decided to kill itself.
Hmm, thats odd timing for sure. I'm no expert but what kind of setup do you have? cable, digital box, bell?
Have you tried unplugging it? tried without the box(if you have one)? tried with dvd player(any other device)?

I didn't want it to be like this....we had some good times and some bad. But when it comes down to it, my TV clearly wanted me to put an end to its miserable pink existence.
No more suffering.....no more.

My old CRT TV started making these horribly loud cracking noises (like TV thunder) that made the screen go black then come back on slowly. The cracks got louder and more frequent until I was sure that my TV was going to burst into flames and burn my house down. The cracks started when I was watching Conan the Barbarian one night. . . the TV decided to take its life that night.

Well, it was still watchable and I'm too lazy to pick up an old TV. My roomie actually offered me her old one and I couldn't even be bothered to hook that up.
And I've only really put up with it for 3 months, as I've been away for a while.
Oh well, it will all be worth it when I'm finally hooked up with the wonder that is HDTV.

I'm still using my 32" CRT and the picture and sound is still great. I have been thinking about getting an LCD flat screen but always backdown due to the fact the TV i got still works fine. That and I don't watch much TV besides hockey. May have to leave a glass of water on top of the TV and accidently knock it over letting the water fry the tube

I had a friend whose TV had a picture tube problem where the top half of the screen got stretched out, so any close-in shots had people with hilarously elongated heads. She didn't even notice 'till I was over one day and we were watching a movie and I pointed it out to her; I guess it happened so gradually she never picked up on it.
Although you would think you'd compare the images on TV to reality and clue in, but it's a good example of how the mind sees what it thinks it's supposed to see, and not necessarily what is actually there.

I had a friend whose dad was colour blind and he set the TV up the way he liked it, everybody else be damned.
My 42" LG plasma just set on fire the other day. 15 months old. I feel for you. At least it is under warranty. LG sent a repair guy yesterday and they are ordering parts. One more week and i get my TV back.
Just so you know, a CRT (when it works without the pink hue!) has a much better picture than any plasma or LCD, especially the regular definition channels. I suggest that since you have hung out so long with the CRT, stick with them. Don't go flat screen unless you have to.
