Default Severe thunderstorm warning for Calgary area

Severe gusts of wind, large hail, local heavy downpours, lots of lightning...

I've got a couple of BIG trees in my yard, and I don't like the way they are flapping around...

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

This can be funny if taken out of context haha.

Hopefully weather clears up for tomorrow.

Eff! This is the one weekend where I don't want to bother with rain at all.

I can believe it. Down here in MacKenzie Towne, the wind gusts are insane. There is a tree threatening to fall into my balcony...

Goodness I can't stop staring at Bibtin Tex's dinosaur thing. lol

It's not too bad up here in the NW.

If it was anything like the storm that was in Edmonton this will be crazy. Man, I thought a tornado was about to start. Not only that, all the lights on Whyte ave went out, no traffic or street lights. Hopefully we don't get something that crazy.

The weather is crazy this year.

We had a funnel cloud down here a few days ago as well. When was the last time anyone heard of a funnel cloud this close to the mountains?

Funnel clouds are as common in the foothills as the flat prairie.

Well I've lived here for 17 years now, and I've never seen one.

Weird.

It's weird that we haven't had any hurricanes/tropical storms here yet. But that's what happened with Hurricane Andrew. It's interesting to learn about your weather up there. I just never thought of Canada as having severe summer storms. Duh.

I am fairly certain that the lack of hurricanes so far this year will be blamed on global warming.

Missdpuck, our severe is very different from your severe. Our severe is probably like a mild storm for you guys.

The wind gusts were insane at Seaman stadium in Okotoks creating a huge swirling dust storm on the field. Temps also dropped quite a bit too. Later on there was a great lightning show going off to the south in the horizon. One went off as a Dawgs player hit a 400 foot homerun.

On a brighter note the Dawgs rallied from being down 5-2 to smoke Moose Jaw 10-5 and take 2-0 series lead

Power went out in Inglewood for almost three hours. Anyone else have power-outages?

I'm in Inglewood, and my power only went out for about half an hour. Long enough to miss one of the Rider touchdowns.

That was some crazy wind though!

I work at the San Remo restaurant in Garrison Woods and we had a freak wind gust come outta nowhere and blow half the dishes off our patio tables, and nearly toppled over the ones with open umbrellas!

Yeah got nothing here other then a wicked wind for 10 mins, didn't get dark, I heard a little thunder and a nice rain and it was all gone. Looks like north of Airdrie and around Red Deer got it. I heard the stage collapsed at the Jamboree in Camrose.
