There's certainly more cops that are heroes than cops who are criminals (as in this case). How many jobs require you to put your life in serious danger purely for the welfare of others?

No kidding. You ran from the police, put people's lives in danger, and you got beat down for it. Boo hoo. I can see why you don't want this precedent being set (cops aren't judges) but I won't lose any sleep knowing some criminal scumbag got beat down.

Well I mean, he (the driver) clearly made a flying manoeuvre only crazed criminals are capable of out of the minivan. The police with their sound judgement only did what is right and made sure he was down for the count.

Thats awesome!!!
What I don't understand in a case like this is why don't they turn off the camera or destroy/erase the tapes?
Surely the punishment for that isn't any worse than getting fired from your job.

I've always found that people who hate the cops are the ones doing things they shouldn't be. Piling on law enforcement is incredibly transparent.

Brutal. That being said, it's a few bad apples not the norm for cops. I have tremendous respect for the police and hopefully videos like these don't put a bad label on all of them.

I hate to say it, but yeah, boo hoo.
Give these guys a few days off and make them apologize or something, but they shouldn't all be canned for that. I guess it's kind of hard to not fire them, but still...
I know I know, they should be held to a higher standard and all that, but that nut obviously tried to kill a cop a few minutes before he crashed. They are human beings -- they gave the guy a few shots and I don't blame 'em.
According to one article I read, that jackass didn't even know he'd been roughed up until he saw the video.

I am torn. Yes, human nature you want to give a few kicks to a person with no regard for the law that nearly kills your fellow colleagues and other innocent bystanders. The other side is that the police are held in a high professional standard and are only required to use force when necessary. Someone unconscious after a car accident doesn't need any more force to be subdued.
The victim was no saint and I don't have much sympathy but he didn't need extra force to be restrained.

Many people hate and mistrust the police. The ones who usually are at fault are the media. The media arbitraily editorializes things of this nature without providing enough context for there to be a chance of objectivity. Then, you say: "how is that editorialized? the evidence is right there; he's suffering undue force after already being unconscious". Thus, I side with the cops on the humanity side of it, if indeed, their lives were threatened. He apparently is a murderer, so that doesn't make it more acceptable. It shows that humans consistently allow their emotions to get the best of them in power struggle scenarios like this one. Higher standards, higher schmanderds, cops are people who have personal lives full of problems and ego trips. Cops are a perfect example of "put your self in their shoes". The guy on the rampage who had his head booted is another case of endangering many, so why is turnabout not fairplay? I do things that the police may disagree with, but check municipal and civic constitution, you may break a few rules to now and then. But, in General, I don't mistrust all police, just the corrupt ones. And I've never done anything to warrant undue force, so I really can't say.
If it were a pedophile/rapist would that treatment be more acceptable?

Glad to see the 5 officers were fired. No need for the excessive force
If you can't restrain yourself, find another career.

I didn't know that when I commented in the other thread regarding this incident...I'll stay out of this now, but just wanted to point out I didn't understand the magnitude of the guy they were dealing with.

Definately inappropriate by the cops, but i can hardly condemn them here. If it was me here and the guy nearly killed one of my colleagues 30 seconds earlier, I could easily see the emotions boiling over and giving the guy a few shots.
