Calgary Stampede 2009
New and unique foods for 2009
- Deep-Fried Jelly Beans
- BBQ Pulled Pork
- Arizona Fry Bread
- Tornado Potatoes
- Wheat Grass Juice
And here's a longer list of food for this year: http://cs.calgarystampede.com/upload...ctory-2008.pdf
Deep-Fried Jelly beans is Jelly Bellys rolled in funnel cake batter and fried. Last year, the deep fried oreos were nasty. I wonder what Arizona fry bread and Tornado potatoes are.
Nevermind... Tornado potato:

Yup. I think they put George Fox away in storage with the hay bales and wagon wheel decorations every year and unpack him in July.
That's it for the Coke stage?

I sure hope that's not it for the Coke stage. Hinder is the only band I wouldn't mind seeing, the rest I'm not crazy about at all.
I remember seeing Trooper on the Coke stage quite some time ago.

apparently they cooked your deep fried oreos wrong or maybe its just the American in me because they are actually the epitome of deliciousness here at our state fair. The twinkies not so much .... but the oreos are a huge hit here ...

There is always that one sketchy food trailer at the Stampede that advertises 'deep fried Coke'. I have never been able to figure that one out. Anyone tried it?

Yup and it's disgusting. Essentially they take the coke syrup and drizzle it into a vat of deep frying oil and it turns into these batter strings that taste nothing like coke and are just oil...and some sugar.

I thought the deep fried oreos were awesome, a warm gooey oreo. They were quite sweet & rich, so I could only handle two or three at one time. I did try them a second time, and they weren't as fresh and the centre started to harden again. Those were gross.
Deep fried Coke is made with a batter that is flavoured with coke syrup. It is almost like eating a donut flavoured with Coke. I tried it once. It was okay, but nothing to rave about.

I think they might still be adding artists because yeah, that list looks really really short. They've got another month to add.

I think they did it right and I'm just not a fan of sweet and creamy. That's probably why.

I could only manage about 2 and then I just felt sick. But it was indeed a warm gooey oreo.

It's food art. I'm wondering if they season it or anything.
