Amazing & Creepy all at once.
.....And WGAF! what TOYOTA spends their money on?
Are you offended that they created a robot?
Or did you expect them to spend money on saving the planet?.......Like all the other big Corporations.
...............PFFFFFFFFTTTTTT. ...............

No, I just wonder why they spend their money on this, not really whining, just curiosity. Robotics is a field I sort of passively follow (cousin I talk with a lot is studying robotics, bro in law did a degree in AI), and as far as I know, manufacturing is the main application of robotics.
I'd imagine there would be an end goal to this R&D. Robotics for their manufacturing plants?

One reason I've heard that the big Japanese companies (Honda has some impressive robots, too) are putting so much into "humanoid" robot development is because of their aging population. In just a few years there's going to be a lot more people over 65 than in the workforce, and they're hoping that robots can fill in some of the gaps - especially in basic services. Creepy, but practical.

Seems to me it might be who can create the closest thing to an artificial human. This race has been going on for decades. I'm guessing HONDA & TOYOTA are running almost neck & neck. Bragging rights will be huge for who ever wins this one.

I didn't know those 2 were competition to build a artificial human. I've mostly been following through scientific journals and magazines though, but I'm not much of a car-geek. Anyone know what the limiting factor in this challenge is right now? (or expected to be) Probably the AI? Ability to perceive the wide range and the fine resolution of mimicking human senses?

Japan has a real problem with their population, so they are trying to make robotic people to take over crap jobs.

While I meant it as a joke, you have to admit it is kind of true. And I mean that in an empathetic way to the Mexican people that have to do the crap jobs because they have no other way of making ends meet.
(haha, just noticed the white text.)

I'd like to order one thats 30 feet tall, has chain guns in its arms, a flame thrower on one shoulder and a rocket launcher on the other. It needs to be programmed to murder anyone with a first name that starts with . . . . I don't know B.
I will name it Killster.

Michael: You really don’t get it, do you. You don’t understand these people. That is the last thing that they would want, is a day off.
Jan: Well, what would you suggest.
Michael: A statue.
Jan: Of Ed?
Michael: Yeah.
Jan: I’m not sure that’s realistic.
Michael: Well, I think it would be very realistic. It would look just like him.
Jan: No, that’s not …
Michael: We could have his eyes light up, we could have his arms move …
Dwight: That is not a statue, that is a robot.
Michael: I think that is a great way to honor Ed.
Dwight: And how big do you want this robot?
Michael: Life size.
Dwight: Mmm, no. Better make it two-thirds. Easier to stop it if it turns on us.
Jan: What the hell are you two talking about?
Dwight: Look, I gave him a six-foot extension cord so he can’t chase us.
Michael: That’s perfect.
They are ignoring the first law of Michael Scott's robotics.

Balance.
But in all seriousness, look at the way that human is pushing the robot around in the beginning of the clip. It's only a matter of time until they get the balls to rebel and we end up as slaves for them.
