Default "Watchmen" movie - Trailer!

I know there is a small group of people here who are fans of the Graphic Novel and can't wait for the movie to finally come about. Well.. they've finally started production on it.

Loved the book. But I must admit I'm a little worried about the film.

This is a book that will need to be trimmed down a bit to fit the movie format, and I think a lot of the undertones and nuances of the story will get lost in translation.

Hopefully I'm wrong and the movie turns out as great as it could be!

Apparently Synder is filming The Black Freighter bits and putting them on the DVD. So they won't be apart of the film, but we will still get them later on on DVD, that is excellent news. If the movie clocks in at around the 2:30-3:00 hour mark in the theatre, it can be done.

Can't wait to see it.

Rorschach's Journal. October 12th, 1985.
Dog Carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen it's true face.
I can't wait till this comes out. Any word on who's playing Rorschach yet? Billy Crudup as Dr Manhattan should be fun to see.

I hope this will be good, but my expectations are quite low. After the trainwreck that was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen that is...

I agree, actually. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a simpler, more cinematic story, but the film was a spectacular display of Hollywood mediocrity, full of spectacle but empty of substance. V for Vendetta turned out as well as one could expect, I thought: less nuanced and straying somewhat from the spirit of the graphic novel, but not nearly as terrible as LoEG.

Watchmen is his most dense, complex work, IMO. As a movie, there's a 10% chance of good and a 90% chance of colossally bad.

I'll probably see it anyway, though.

I may be wrong but I think I heard it is that guy who was in the original Bad News Bears movie. He played the rebel kid on the dirt bike. I can't recall his name but I think he won an oscar last year playing a pedophile in some movie with a name I don't recall.

edit: His name is Jackie Earl Haley

Nice.
Now all we need is Sandman and Cerebus movies and we'll have closed off most of the indie style hero comics from the early 90's.

Wow--there are a lot of ways they could screw this movie up, but those pics look pretty nice, I have to admit.

Great pics, cannot wait to see this. Never been this excited about a movie before. Can't remember how much I've read the graphic novel.

Apparently Gerard Butler has signed on for The Black Freighter comic within a comic and it will be animation.

In a sorta of related new they are also making Will Eisner’s “The Sprit” movie, it’s done by Frank Miller so it looks very Sin City esc but I still think it can stand on its feet

Teaser here: http://www.mycityscreams.com/index2.html?swf=video

I get more and more excited about this every time some details are released. It looks like the source material is being treated very well.

Me too. Is there a final release date on it yet?

If it'll be out this fall I may assign the Watchmen novel to my literature students, and have them see the film--I think that might be a lot of fun. I taught it once in the past, and though their historical understanding was a little lacking, (so the thatcherism/reaganomics angle went over their heads a little) they did get a lot out of the book anyway.
