Default Chris Baryla: Catastrophic Collapse

For those that follow golf, check out this score from Canadian Chris Baryla.

http://www.pgatour.com/players/02/71...2008/h096.html

That's a 54 on the back nine. He took a 10 on a par 3.

Two years ago this guy almost squeezed out a PGA Tour card despite only having conditional status on the Nationwide Tour.

I have no idea what has happened to him this year - injury, mental, or what, but this is just terrible.

He seemed to be on the cusp of being the next Canadian golfer......

Isn't there some rule that if you're a certain amount over par you lose your tour card for the year or something?

I can honestly say never heard of the guy...this seems like a Tin Cup moment.

3 or 4 into the water on 17 from the "Cobalt" (gotta love the West Coast urban shiek) tees.

More perplexing is a 7 on the previous, fairly straightforward Par 3 12th.

For the LPGA I think it was if you shoot 88+/88+ on the first two days which is why Michelle Wie had to retire with a wrist "injury" a few years back.

Not sure what the deal is with the PGA but my guess is it is similar.

he played really well in the US Open a few years ago as an amateur. played his college golf at UTEP. Pretty solid player.

Apparently he was playing hurt but felt obligated to finish his round:

Time to look for new sponsors. Depends is probably available...

That ad writes itself:

"Have you ever found yourself dropping a deuce in a public and embarrassing situation such as firing a 96 on tour? If so, then Depends is the brand for you!"

I still think this guy is the next Canadian to make a breakthrough, but clearly not this season or next (because he'll have to earn his way back to Nationwide).

Good to see him do well at the RBC! Nice payday too $123,000. Not too shabby!!!
Maybe this is a sign of better things to come.

Awesome BAustin. Great to hear.

How did he respond to the crowds and such?

Watching him on the nationwide tour he seems to be a guy who can run really hot or cold depending upon the day.

I was glad he cracked the top 10 for the automatic berth into next week's tourney.
